WE UPDATE OUR FAQ REGULARLY!

We understand that some help might be required whenever a new tech product is purchased. The Audio Express HDMI to USB Video Capture Card is no different. Should you experience any issues that you feel are unusual or simply have a question, we are here to help. Please consult the FAQ below for the most common issues that might need to be addressed.

General FAQ and Troubleshooting Help

  1. Frame Rate and Quality Settings: Ensure that you have optimized the frame rate and quality settings in your capture software. Adjusting these settings appropriately can significantly improve performance and video quality.

  • USB Port Limitations: To prevent dropped frames or degraded performance, use a USB 2.0 port for your capture card. It's also recommended to avoid using hubs or shared ports, as they might impact the capture quality.
  • Compatibility and Firmware: Check for the latest firmware updates for your capture card. Additionally, verify the compatibility of your gaming console, especially if you're using a Nintendo Switch model, to avoid any potential issues.
  • Fast Motion and Frame Drops: During fast motion or scrolling in games, you might notice pixel misalignment. This can be related to frame drops. To mitigate this, try reducing the intensity of fast motion or scrolling in your gameplay, and ensure that your capture settings are optimized.
  • Input Lag: Input lag can be influenced by various factors, including your computer's performance, HDMI cable quality, and capture software settings. Make sure your computer is capable of handling real-time video capture and consider using high-quality HDMI cables.
  • Capture Software Settings: Adjust the settings within your capture software to match the requirements of your gameplay. Incorrect software settings can lead to synchronization issues, so take time to configure them properly.
  • Other Factors: Keep in mind that specific games or consoles might have unique demands on your capture card. Test your device with a variety of games and devices to determine if the issues persist across different scenarios.

VLC for WINDOWS USERS:

If you're using VLC on Windows to stream, the card may not report the supported resolutions. If this happens you'll have to manually type them in on the Open Capture Device screen; here are the modes listed via ffmpeg: 640x480, 720x480, 720x576, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x720, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1360x768, 1600x1200, 1920x1080 The default output format 'mjpeg' supports 10-60 fps for all resolutions, and 'yuyv422' supports between 5-30 fps randomly per mode (1080 is 5fps) Note: the ffmpeg command to use is: ffmpeg.exe -f dshow -list_options true -i video="USB Video"

STILL FRAMES ONLY: There may be an incompatibility or driver issue with your system. You can solve this problem by using an HDMI switching device such as the Gana 8k or 4k/HDMI Switch.

STEREO ISSUES: If you are only seeing a single channel of audio on record or streaming you need to check HDMI Audio Settings: Make sure the source device you are connecting to the HDMI to USB Video Capture Card is set to output stereo audio. Many devices default to mono audio, and you might need to adjust the settings to ensure stereo output. In addition, see below:

  1. OBS Audio Settings: In OBS, when setting up your capture source, make sure to select the appropriate audio settings. You should be able to configure it to capture stereo audio by selecting the correct audio input source in the settings. If you're still experiencing issues, ensure that the source device's audio settings are correctly configured.
  2. HDMI Source Resolution: Ensure that the HDMI source is set to a resolution that HDMI to USB Video Capture Card supports.
  3. Firmware Updates: Check if there are any firmware updates available for the HDMI to USB Video Capture Card. Sometimes, updating the device's firmware can resolve compatibility and performance issues.

If you're still facing difficulties, please feel free to reach out to our customer support team for further assistance. We can provide more specific guidance based on the product model and any potential troubleshooting steps.

It works as advertised and just as I wanted. You can connect a DSLR to OBS Studio and it would also work for other cameras.

This product is excellent for the price. I had a similar experience to another reviewer who reported that they could only use it with OSB the first time they used it and then it stopped working. Unlike that reviewer, I found that I could use it with other software such as Microsoft Camera and it worked fine with that. The problem seems to be a firmware issue with the device that changes the device ID or something. After it stops working, OSB can't find it any more and does not recognize it as a capture card. Other software is unaffected by this problem. If you're not live streaming, it won't be a problem for you because you can import your content to OSB as a media file. If you are live streaming, you *might* be able to connect to your camera by importing the other software as a source but I have not tried this because I don't use my camera for live streaming. The picture quality is excellent when just using it to capture from a HDMI camera (in my case, I am using a BMD Studio Camera and it works perfectly, allowing me to to avoid buying an expensive field monitor to do the exact same thing I am doing now). If you are experienced with computers you will have no problem with this capture card. If you are less experienced, you might need to put in a little more effort to get it working, but I don't think it is a serious handicap compared to the benefits. I deducted 1 star due to the issues about OSB compatibility, especially since most users will want to use it for that purpose.

Let me say, this is a game changer for anybody wanting to play their console on their laptop. I used OBS studio to show the game, and all I have to do was plug in the hdmi cord to the converter and plug it into the usb plugin of my laptop to get it working. The audio, video, and graphics are all great using it. It was easy to setup, and the value is very good.

I purchased this as a recommendation as a cheap alternative to the algoto cam link. I will add a video later of what happens when it’s in use.At first it was okay. It turned my stream into 1080p for my song like I wanted. I didn’t realize it was the capture cards fault at first. I thought it was the WiFi or streamlabs because I’m newer to streaming. Not only does it hang loosely in the usb port but it gets very hot very quickly. It’s extremely unreliable to say the least. Then as the stream went on it started lagging me and freezing the screen. After that it fully shut down and created rainbow colored lines onto my video. As much as I wish this was a bang for the buck I’d have to say, pass or good luck to anyone who tries to use this for more than an hour. Waste of time and money.

This thing works pretty well. Especially given the price of only 10$. I use it to capture video game console footage.

Got this along with another $10 thing that converted the 3-cable (red, white, yellow) outlet from the VCR to HDMI. Then used the free OBS software mentioned and it worked perfectly for me. Running windows 11.I have Nero video software as well, however this didn’t work well with that program. It would recognize the device for a bit then it would cut out. When I went to the OBS software I had no issues.

When I got it last year (2024) it was working fairly well. The video quality was pretty good. It's nice, small, and portable. However a few months (about 5) after purchasing it started having issues and kept flashing between enabled and disabled. If you're on a budget this is okay but if you want to use one long term, you should get something better.
