Just getting back into ham radio on a budget. Found this for under $40 it seems to work well. Didn't take long for me to learn how to manually program it, then I found the CHIRP software and figured out that way too. Seems to work OK without bricking the radio. Not great with the local 2m repeater but my location is not the best either even with a mag mount antenna. Also works great as a local area PS scanner too. Easy to look up and program. (Receive only, of course) Overall satisfied with this purchase.Update 08/06/2023.Can't say it's had heavy use but probably 80% scanner 20% Ham. You have to consider price point too. Overall satisfied with performance but of course it's not one of the Big Boy radios. It's served my economic purpose. Lately volume control has gone wonky. Full volume there is none. But slight turn down and volume is clear. So volume control is wearing out at max adjustment. Not a terrible inconvenience for me but eventually I suspect it will fail. Certainly not worth repair. Sadly it becomes a disposable item. New replacement ones are about same price. The big name HT's are nice but my budget isn't that big for a side hobby right now. Not sure about a second one just yet.

This is a great little radio. Everything works well and all accessories are working. The Setup with CHIRP Next was a breeze. Just make sure to install the Driver FIRST or it will not work on COM3.

I own several of the BAOFENG radios in different configurations. They are not the easiest radios to program without some assistance, however, there are bunches of programming instructions on the internet and YouTube that make it a breeze. The good thing is they develop as much power as any brand of radio from the cheapest to the most expensive ones you can buy. Some people will claim they are cheap Chinese junk but they work well. Download the free CHIRP programming software and you're on your way!

Great radio for the price which includes extra battery, mic,DC power cable, earpiece, programming cable. Because it is relatively cheap it becomes a 'throw away' if it breaks down. Great for new hams. I can trip several repeaters with. You can use Chrip software to program it. The unit is value for the money

I got this to kick start my ham radio experience. I mostly got it to listen to local channels (you also need a license to talk on most channels besides the public access ones). This kit has a range of accessories and for the price point, it's really a steal. A normal radio is about 26, and the accessories tend to be 10 for each so for 45, it's a great price. The battery life is pretty long and the range is between 1 and 30 miles, depending on settings. It's easy to buy one of these because if you break it, it's easily replaceable.

This is one of the standards for many search and rescue volunteers due to its affordability versus Kenwood and others. I don't use most of the accessories. It picks up channels in the city well, but in the backcountry it struggled to pick up chatter even with an established relay. Others with similar Baofengs had some success, but it's inconsistent.
