It seems like every time I want to do a quick measurement with digital calipers the batteries end up being dead. A vernier caliper avoids that problem and is nearly as quick to read once you get used to them. Prior use years ago in the navy helped with that. And this was nice and long, with the roller / scribe setup being absolutely great for marking. I thought the roller might also come in handy measuring OD by sweeping along the edge. That all worked great, just as expected. And on thinner material, just a couple repeat scribes with the tapered marker end did the cut I needed. The design does mean you are mostly limited to OD type use, but that should be obvious from the listing photos. The less obvious limitation is in the markings. There are only two mark heights used and they are not much different. The shorter markings are at 0.1mm and 1/16" respectively. And although there is a 1mm taller mark at 0.5mm and 1/8", they are not easily discernable. For my old eyes at least. I also found that the numerical markings being next to these slightly taller ones instead of above them, or the lines extending all the way to the top of the number, means you need to focus closely to see the exact measurement on the main scale. This slows the reading a lot for me, more so on the inch scale since the typical layout is for different height marks at 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2. But as for the actual vernier markings, those are nicely spaced and labeled and fairly easy to read. I'm sure it will get more natural with use, but there is plenty of room on the scale to make the different height markings more easily readable.

Slides smoothly. Scales in inches and mm, and both appear accurate. This will be handy when confirming the thickness of wood or metal stock, diameter of wood and metal rods.
