Tried pulling the cartridge with vise grips, no luck. This screws on (no directions, so watch a video), and with some wd-40 and a slight back and forth twisting motion, it slowly broke loose. I was careful to rock it clockwise and counterclockwise and spraying it as I pulled it. Patience is your friend as you don't want to break it in the brass body valve.

This tool is a copy of the Moen tool which is not a puller at all. It's just a handle that allows you to apply more force than with just a pliers, but the reaction force is still the pipes which can be damaged and spring a leak if you pull too hard. You can make a real puller with a socket and #10-24 x 3" screw as shown attached. Hold the Phillips screw head and turn the nut. This applies force between the cartridge and the cylinder and it will pull a very stuck cartridge without damaging the pipes. It can pull hard enough that the deep end of the cartridge breaks off and you have to break it up with a chisel to get it out of the cylinder.

Works perfectly to pull Moen shower valves. I tried pulling with channel locks and with the plastic cube that Moen includes for that purpose with its replacement valves---no joy. But this puller device worked effortlessly. Start to finish, I replaced a Moen 1225 valve in less than 20 min. Save the plumber visit for more serious issues

This Cartridge Puller for Moen tub/shower Posi-Temp Pressure Balanced Shower Cartridges was the ultimate tool in replacing several 30 year old cartridges (I only wished I knew about Moen's lifetime warranty before getting new cartridges). Anyway, a couple were leaking and/or hard to open, so I decided to replace them.A few utube videos and I was confident. The first one was a breeze! I was really confident. Then, for the remaining fixtures, reality sunk in - I pulled, I twisted, I cursed, I almost broke the fitting in the wall! More research and I find this cartridge puller. It's a simple device and works exactly as expected - applies force around the cartridge to easily extract even the most stubborn stuck cartridge I had. Each of the remaining cartridges were easily extracted and replaced. This tool was a life-saver. Granted, it's probably a one time use for most homeowners, but it could save you the expense of a plumber if you goof something up.I rate it as a very good buy for my needs.

Worked well to remove a stubborn 26 year old cartridge. Of course it does not come with instructions in case you have never used a tool like this. Fairly easy to find the instructions online but should have had the simple instructions included.

It worked but it is made of a cheap aluminum and won't last. Great for a DIYer one time use
