  • Use with Low-Output Mics - Use with Noisy or Low-Gain Preamps - Made in the USA

The Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator from Cloud Microphones is a compact, single-input solution for common audio problems in the field and in the studio involving low-output passive microphones, including ribbons. The CL-1 uses any standard phantom-powered mixer or microphone input device to provide up to +25 dB of clean, transparent gain. This improves signal-to-noise ratio and improves the performance of passive microphone signals by driving stronger, cleaner signals over longer XLR cable runs, making them ideal for broadcast, live, and studio applications. The CL-1 is housed in a rugged steel enclosure which offers shielding and durability. Additionally, the CL-1 has provisions for stage or stand mounting.
Transparent Gain - Gives passive mics up to +25 dB additional active output and keeps the direct audio path free-and- clear of transformers, capacitors, and resistors. The CL-1 houses discrete JFET circuitry that delivers clean gain while preserving the natural sonic characteristics of the source
Use with noisy or low-gain preamps
Use with mixers/preamps that negatively impact the sound at higher gain setting
Use with low-output dynamic microphones and ribbons
Mic softer sound sources such as acoustic instruments and voice
Use for long cable runs
Gives passive mics up to +25 dB additional active output
Provides 2 distinct stages of clean gain
Easy to use self-contained design requires only phantom power
Recommended for use with all passive dynamic microphones
Compatible with tube, battery, or power supply driven microphones
Safe for all passive ribbons with no transfer of phantom
Utilizes Patent Pending Class A, Discrete JFET circuitry
Ideal impedance loading for optimal performance @ 3 kOhms
Rugged, road ready, and portable, for studio, stage, and broadcasting

This enhances the sound so well that when I play back the recording I can hear things that I can't hear without the microphone. I've had my hearing tested and I have perfect hearing, so that means this makes the microphone hear better than the human ear.

I actually am much more impressed than I thought I'd be with this. The quality is incredible. Very sturdy and I love that it comes with two different cables so you can plug and play. It's essential when working on some podcasts to enhance the audio and reduce all of the noise and interference that comes with some of these audio decks or mics themselves. If you have a hard time getting good sound for your podcast mics, this might just help.

My wife bought me a Shure SM55 (Elvis) microphone for my birthday. She was starting to get pissed at me for not using it at gigs, but the output was much lower than my EV microphone. I did some research on the SM55 mic and found this mic pre-amp. Let me tell you that this little box is a total game changer. I used to need to set the gain on the SM55 at about 80% and it would feedback like crazy, but with the Cloudlifter my gain is at 10% with no feedback. I bought a second one to put on our lead singer's SM58 and we don't have feedback problems anymore. Well worth the price

If you came looking for this I can only assume you just got an SM7B and everyone told you that you needed one. They’re right.I was skeptical at first, thinking I have an Apollo Twin, I shouldn’t have a problem. Had to really crank the pre and even then I wasn’t getting what I needed out of that mic.Knew I needed the CL-1, and for an extra $10 over MSRP, they threw in 2 XLR cables which is a nice little gesture. Just don’t forget it needs phantom power, cause I did when I was recording with a client and looked like a jackass lol

First and foremost, the Cloudlifter does it’s job and does it fairly well. The only problem I had was the XLR inputs were extremely tight and I felt like I was having to force the cable in.Ultimately, I found the CL-2’s boxy design and requirement of dual cables per input device to be impediments for me. I opted for the FetHead solution as it was far more portable and doesn’t require a second cable in the chain. Not to mention I got a pair of FetHeads and pocketed almost $100 in the difference. For my purpose of a mobile podcast setup the FetHead solution was far more convenient. This is likely confirmation bias, but I also found the Cloudlifter sound to be just a bit duller than that of the FetHead. For a stationary setup, I can see this CL-2 making a lot of sense for someone. And by no means is it a bad purchase. Also the shipping and seller were great.

When setting up a Shure SM7B, this is a necessity. You have other competitors, but I had to trust in the longstanding top choice, the Cloudlifter. It has not failed me. My mic quality is top tier and I've never had a single problem. It's incredibly easy to set up. Just an XLR in, XLR out, and doesn't even require an external power source.

I enjoyed doing business w Imaging World. The Cloudlifter was not a net positive for my needs, running vocals thru a UA 8p interface. Also, recording electric guitar thru a Royer R-10 was no clear improvement. If I was using a cheaper interface like a Clarett, this would be a keeper, or doing podcasts, I suppose.

One of the cables didn't work. Kicking myself because I read the reviews AFTER I bought the cables (rookie mistake!) - reviews of people saying "Don't buy this bundle" for this exact reason.Lost hours of my life trying to work out the source of buzzing and lack of audio through my DAW.
