  • STANDARD CONNECTION. This trailer hitch wiring adapter plugs into any standard 4-way flat and can be used to connect the taillights, brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights, trailer brakes and auxiliary power (some splicing required)
  • DURABLE CONSTRUCTION. For long-lasting use and a reliable connection, the housing of this trailer harness adapter is made from durable black plastic that will never rust or corrode

There are several different types of connectors used to supply power from a tow vehicle's electrical system to a trailer's wiring system. Some trailers only need the bare essentials -- running lights, brake lights and turn signals -- while others require a connection for reverse lights, electric brakes and auxiliary power. With connectors ranging from simple to complex, it may be the case that the connection between your vehicle and your trailer is not a perfect match. For example, your truck may be equipped with a 6-way round socket, but your trailer may have a 4-way flat plug. For this very common problem, CURT offers a quick and simple solution in the form of an electrical adapter. An adapter is an electrical device that allows a connection to be made between a mismatched trailer plug and vehicle socket. It easily plugs in your vehicle's electrical socket and usually requires no additional wiring. CURT offers an array of adapters to accommodate most types of plugs and sockets, including 4-way flat, 4-way round, 5-way flat, 6-way round, 7-way RV blades and more. This special dual-output electrical adapter is actually designed to adapt a 4-way flat vehicle socket to fit multiple trailer plugs, including a 4-way flat and a 7-way RV blade connector. Some manual wiring is required. This multipurpose socket also comes with an integrated electrical tester, dust covers, a mounting bracket and all necessary mounting hardware for a complete installation..

I am used to working on and around several sketchy trailers. They always bump into stuff, or the wires break, or for whatever reason not everything is functional on them. It is super useful to have something that is giving me a visual indication that the signals from the vehicle are at least getting to the back, so I can start my troubleshooting from there. If for some reason some of the lights aren't working, I can then pull my meter out and check the voltage right from the back to verify. I also installed a brake controller at the same time, and it was very easy to check that the brake controller was working. I did have to cut the four wire connector off that attaches to the one assumed to be in the vehicle because my truck previously had just a seven pin adapter, so I needed to crimp the pigtails together, and verify the factory colors on my vehicle were matching up with the new adapter. I immediately took the adapter on a 600 mi round trip towing a trailer, and everything worked like it's supposed to. A really nice option to have the flexibility to connect to seven pin or a 4-pin trailer without any additional equipment.

Overall easy to install except they do not furnish screws. Works perfectly on both the round and flat connectors. My truck only had the flat connector from the factory which I used to install this adaptor. Light tester is a nice bonus to ensure your wiring works without having to install trailer.

We bought this for use with our pop-up camper and it works very well and has a solid feel. I like that the LED indicators show which circuits are in use at the time and that there is a convenient location for the 4 prong connector. Installation is a snap when used with the appropriate accessories and we are very please with the product. Only time will tell how it will hold up with use and age, but the build quality gives me the impression that I will not be disappointed.

I paid a little more since it had a built in tester and love that feature. I'm working with an older vehicle that doesn't have a simple plug and play wiring so, I went with this one so I can tell if everything is working. Works perfectly!

I bought this electrical adapter with the Curt 58000 Easy-Mount Electrical Bracket. Nothing wrong with the provided bracket. I installed this on a Toyota Sienna and I didin't have anything to easily attach the provided bracket. The 58000 easily and nicely mounts to the 2 inch receiver. The adapter was easy to wire up, connecting to my existing 4 pin plug. I used 3 strand outdoor 12 guage copper wire from Lowes to run the power and trailer brake connections to the front. I used the black wire to connect to the adapter's to black lead, using a 40 amp breaker in the the power line before connecting to the battery. You'll have to buy some eye connectors if you don't already have them (I purchased a pack at Walmart). I used the white wire to connect to the adapter's blue lead for the trailer brake, but as of this posting, I do not need a trailer brake, so I have it capped off in the engine compartment. The reason for 4 stars is that the adapter's white ground lead was too short for me to mount to the vehicles frame in the back, so I clipped off the eye connector and connected it into the unused copper ground wire of the 3 strand wire amd added an eye connector to the other end, to make the ground connection in the engine compartment. The tester lights are great, providing added assurance that the wiring of the tow vehicle is still good, although, as many have already reported, the 12v power LED remains illuminated once the connection is made.I have it all taped up and protected with plastic loom, so it should be good to go, but time will tell how it does in the elements.

I installed this with a hitch bracket instead of the included bracket but it still works great. The only down fall is the LED lights are on all the time due to 12 volt being hot to the connection at all times. Had it on all year, the draw has not negatively effected my Dodge Caravan. People sometimes ask why I have little red lights on all the time but most have gotten used to seeing it on all the time. The upside of course is that if you have an issue with your trailer brakes or lights you can instantly eliminate the tow vehicle as the problem if the lights are all working at the connector.

My SUV already had the factory installed 4-way, but my new camper needed the 7 way. This was such a straight forward install. I was able to add a 7-way break controller. I can now haul with confidence.I had someone from u-haul perform the install, and even the technician recommended this Wiring Adapter.

Power LED is always ON, this is a minor load for the battery. For this LED alone, it will take more than a year to drain a normal battery. But, it may give the idea to some smart a** to drain your battery by connecting something to the connector... but they can do it without a LED anyway, the issue can be solved with a switch and a relay so you control when there is power on the plug, the LED is not the issue, LED only shows that there is a flaw. The only real issue I have it that I did not find or I lost the instructions, and my existing plug was different, so here the wiring if you need it:- The 4 pin connector is obvious, it connects to the vehicle harness- White is ground, with the screw on connector, (standard colour)- Black is 12V charging power (standard colour)- Blue for Electric Brake (standard colour)- Yellow for backup (Yellow is standard for RV or SAE, while the traditional wiring colour code is purple as my existing plug)Other than that:- The yellow connectors are heavy duty, get some good crimpers.- If the vehicle doesn't have a 4 pins connector, install one, it will make your life easier in the future if you need to replace this plug, as I just did.

The only product out of the project that I'm actually happy with. The built in tester is nice, despite always having LEDs on. They are teeny tiny little lights, they won't kill your battery if you use the car with any real frequency but will save you a lot of headache when something isn't working. And if you're really that concerned about draining your battery; take the extra step to put a switch in somewhere (where you won't accidentally bump it while towing) to shut off the whole 7 way plug and brake controller.

The wiring for the test lights, buried under a plastic tab and covered in a layer of black goop, completely rotted out after less than two years. It was never submerged in water. I can't get it open to check the rest of the wiring but the whole think stinks of burned electrical connections. I've replaced it with a simpler C$29 Oviny adapter that appears to be better made. The Oviny has no test lights but it has two ground wires, one each to the 4 pin and 7 pin connectors, and has much better cable wrapping and, unlike the Curt, no electrical tape. This failed in the middle of a long trip and left us in a very dangerous position.

Easy to install and attach to the hitch with the Curt 58000 Easy Mount Electrical Bracket for 2" Receiver Tube. My only complaint is that the ground wire for the 7 way is too short if you want to install this adapter so that it comes out the back hatch door (Honda CRV). With our Canadian winters and salted/sanded roads I wanted to be able to remove it and keep it stored inside the car when not in use.I ended up buying some crimps, electrical wire (16 gauge I think it was) and eye loops to extend the ground so I could attach it to the frame where the spare tire and this adapter is stored.
