after reading the reviews I was like "I'm going to have to buy the cloud lifter " but I also understand not everyone follows / reads directions while.. I knew my interface had phantom power as soon as I connected it my mic had a great boost in power and now I'm ready to record or stream.. thank u so much im really glad I didn't have to pay a crazy amount of money for something so small.

I plugged the booster unit to my XLR microphone and plugged the other end to the amplifier mic input. No sound output. Had to return the unit.

The Depusheng MX2 has one job, namely, to boost the signal of a dynamic or ribbon mic to get a usable signal for recording. Typically, the mic preamp is the first gain stage, but some preamps -- especially the ones built into cheaper, consumer-level audio interfaces -- don't have enough gain for some mics. In comes a device like this to be a sort of pre-preamp. I tested the MX2 with a famously low-gain microphone: the ever popular Shure SM7B. For comparison, I recording the same passage of music through both the MX2 and a similar product from Klark Teknik. Both of these devices claim to boost the signal 25 dB. I didn't get into specific measurements, but I can say the Depusheng MX2 was a little louder. After I gain-matched the two recordings, they sounded nearly identical, so the MX2 doesn't seem to alter the signal significantly beyond the intended gain boost. However, the MX is substantially more expensive. Given that products like this are essentially lower-cost alternatives to better known, proven products like the Cloudlifter, price is an important factor in product, so I lowered the rating to reflect the value here is not being as good as similar, but cheaper, devices on the market.

I would not say I can get a full 25db boost out of this unit, but it's a definite uplift, and very clear. So as far as I'm concerned, it's doing its job. Besides, different mics are still going to pick up differently with pre-amps and inline amps like this one. Mine is a skinny Sennheiser that was made for video and closeup vocals, so it has a kind of built-in resistence in any case, especially with climate noise. Overall, good unit.

This is generally in the same price bracket as the Polsen Inline XLR Single-Channel Mic Preamp. Both are budget alternatives to the Cloudlifter CL-1 Mic Activator, but that cost much more, like literally 5 times more. I don't have the Cloudlifter so I can't compare quality, and the Cloudlifter is made in the USA, which I feel better about supporting. But for a 5 times price difference, I am confused.For this to work, phantom power is needed. People unfamiliar with audio equipment and mixers may not be aware of what that means. Basically, it means that some power is being sent to the microphone from the mixer, PAThe photo I uploaded shows this booster with a Zoom H6 recorder/audio interface that has the option of phantom power. Not all recorders or interfaces have phantom power, so it would be good to check if yours does first to make sure everything will work together.

I'm kind of on the fence about this product. When I tried it with my dynamic microphone, I didn't really notice any boost in sound. If anything, it seemed like the volume actually dropped a bit. I think I'll give it another shot with a different microphone or source before making up my mind completely. Stay tuned!

I haven't tested this with a lot of mics, but it did work well with my EV RE320. It gave a noticeable increase in gain without adding any noticeable noise.The device is nicely constructed (I did a teardown to inspect it). It has an aluminum enclosure and the PC board contains a full ground plane for shielding and providing a continuous ground between the input and output connectors. It is very lightweight, but seems like it can withstand daily studio use without issues.I have other more robust mic preamps, but this unit should be useful for certain applications. I will continue to test it with some of my other mics, and if anything of concern happens, I will come back and edit this review in the future.
