These are a very good pair of pliers. They fell and look as well as they work. The grip is tight and secure. I have used them recently to remove a couple of pipe nipples and tighten and secure some bolts and they work very well. I like the fact they are made in the USA and have the nickel-chrome plate finish to help keep the rust away. A bit expensive but you do get what you pay for. They will last a preform well for many years. Not your average bargain bin pliers, much better with some nice features. For those who use tools on a daily basis you can not go wrong.

I went to our local plumbing warehouse to buy these. I was told they were not available. Checked on line and found this supplier. The price is quite a bit higher than at the wholesale house but I cannot do plumbing work without my favorite pliers.

Good design. These 10” replaced my 12” 440’s. They open parallel and grab better due to longer jaw and deep teeth. Lock mechanism stays in place. High quality steel. Also smaller and lighter than the 440. The way the handles close don’t pinch your hands. Glad I found them.

I had these pliers for maybe 2 months and they no longer work. They will not lock in place anymore so when you put them around pipe they just fall completely open and slip off the pipe. They are completely unusable at this point and a huge waste of money

All my other pliers are Knipex. These do not have the same quality but I do find myself reaching for these for some plumbing tasks. Not bad, not the best

I do a lot of plumbing for work and heard for a long time that the Douglas pump pliers were the benchmark of the industry. Fair enough, I thought, so I thought I would order a pair for the dedicated plumbing install toolbox that I have slowly been assembling. I'll tell you what I like first and then what I don't like. What I like: I love that they are made in the US. I also like the grip and the feel, and that they are zinc plated, but see below for more about that. I like the handles and how it grabs well onto pipe and other plumbing hardware and fixtures and is easy to use. I think I like the profile better than the Channel Lock which is close but different. What I don't like: First and foremost one of the handles is bent to the side so that it doesn't line up with the other handle. It appears bent from when it was forged and just assembled anyway. When I say it doesn't line up, its significant, the two handles are so far apart they almost don't touch, like two cars passing by on the same road going opposite directions. This alone should have given it less than four stars except for the fact that it still functions as it should. It really should have been noticed and rejected from quality control, unless they are all like this in which case it would deserve two stars. Design-wise I'm not that impressed with the slip joint system compared to the channel lock type, we'll see how it holds up after prolonged use. The zinc finish seems rough but adequate for water-related surface rust and the forging is still pretty rough for its price.Despite all that it functions decently so far. The teeth are great and it seems to grab better than the channel lock, however I like the channel lock is nice to hold and use. Had this not been an American product I would not recommend it unless it was priced lower.
