As you can see in the photo the old Anode Rod was completely disintegrated, this was the Original Bradford White 50gal Anode Rod. I had this Water Heater installed exactly 4 years & 8 months ago and I just replaced the Anode Rod today 1-30-24. This new Eastman Anode Rod was the exactly what my Water Heater needed, flexible and easy to install since I didn't have enough ceiling room to install a fixed straight rod. The Eastman rod is 42" in length with a 3" nipple, giving it a total length of 45" which is the exact length as my original one, however it did NOT come with a Heat Trap installed as some other reviewers had mentioned but I purchased one separately and it fit in the top nice and snug. Very simple do it yourself job!

It fits well my 50 gallon Bradford white heater. Does not come with heat trap, bought a Bradford white heat trap and it works ok(I forget to compare with old heat trap though).The hardest part is remove the old anode rod, it is very firm, I end up have to buy a much longer wrench from home depot to make it work.The new 3inch head is actually longer than the old one come from factory, I think next time it should be slightly easier to replace.

I should have ordered the longer threaded connector.Made it a bit of a pain to get the threads started. Removed the old one and just dropped the new one in and tightened it down. Checked for leakes and done. Thanks to my 6'3" neighbor handyman.

As usual and not a requirement of any Amazon supplier, the actual measurements of the product were vague. No dimension photo or description explanation. I had to return the 5" as it would be too tall for most applications. The 3" version of the Anode Rod specifically fits a Bradford White water heater and 1" is for threads into the water heater itself and 1" is outer threads for attaching to the outlet pipe, leaving a perfect 1" in the center for a pipe wrench. Waste of effort for everyone due to supplier vagueness, on buying the 5".

-Definitely recommend a pipe wrench. Couldn’t get the old one out with a channel lock or locking wrench.-Ran into one issue removing the old one: it was one solid rod 52 inches long, not sectioned like this one, and the ceiling was only 35 inches above so I couldn’t pull it out. Luckily it was thin enough that I could easily cut it with a sawzall. Could also be interpreted as that it didn’t need to be changed yet, but I had the old one halfway out and the new one unpacked.-Happy that the new one will be easy to remove with the section pieces, and glad this is taken care of for a few years now.

Here is the deal anyone who has tried to remove a GSW hot water tank anode knows that GSW cements them into the tank so they are almost impossible to remove and Yes you are forced to buy a new hot water tanks when the anode fails on the original as it eats the inside of tank until its leaks everywhere.So this new design of a hot water tanks anode is brilliant it simply fits into the existing hot water out line on the tank. So you remove the hot water tank out line and thread in this new unit with teflon tape and you now have a fully functional hot water tank with a great anode.So buy this unit and get more life out of your hot water tank. Its easy In and Easy out . A very smart design. BUY IT .
