For what I need it's perfect. If you view the images you can tell it's not a vernier caliper. The one I recieved is dead on. This was purchased to be part of my bag for work, when doing a boiler replacement estimate it gives me the ability to post pictures to the job allowing the install team to gather correct pipe & fitting sizes. You are not getting a high precision instrument for $8. If you need high precision there are much better tools out there. This is pocket friendly, simple measurements to 1/16 or 1mm up to 3 inches. Don't have to worry about a battery or battery door falling off. Laser etched so the numbers are there and I don't have to worry about it not turning on. I'll use it once or twice a week during heating season then forget it exists through summer. We'll made, rigid metal, a little rough slide the first couple times out. Light file or sand paper on the rule smoothed it out in about 30 seconds. Every took has a purpose, a screwdriver isn't a hammer and this isn't a micrometer. Know what you're buying and the use. This is a good measurement device to 1/16 and don't have to worry about batteries. Perfectly fits my need.

This small ruler is very well made, feels good in your hand, and is fun to use...but, the inches scale is off by 1/16" from the very start and the error replicates all the way down the scale? The cm scale is correct, however. So, as long as you subtract 1/16" from the inches scale you'll be good!

Design engineer here. Wanted a pair of pocket vernier calipers as an EDC. Was not planning on using professionally. Regardless, I am still returning for the following reasons:-no vernier scale. Was mislead by title. I should have inspected the listing more diligently. Dual dimensions used instead of vernier scale. (also would have been more clear if picture on listing had the scales labeled)-inches and mm labels reversed (see attached photo)-extra 1/16th inch added following 3/8. (see attached photo)-inaccurate. the mm scale has a 0.3% error over the 80mm (see attached photo)-poor design; the thumb screw to lock the jaws is placed at the 35mm mark, which means the calipers do not lock beyond measurements of ~40mm. The thumb screw should be placed closer to the end in order to maximize locking range.-poor machine quality; need to break sharp edges. Uncomfortable to hold as a result. It is unlikely that I received a singular bad piece, considering that the manufacturing process used to make this product would duplicate the error on every piece of the same batch. How does an extra 1/16th inch get added, and how are the labels reversed? Probably a bad graphic. Don't trust that there is any piece that does not share the same issues as the one I received.

Has no Vernier scale, it's a sliding scale caliper yes but there is no second Vernier scale for accuracy. It has mm and inches which is great, and the accuracy is 1mm or 1/16" on the main scale. You can visually decide between rounding up or down to the nearest millimeter or 1/16" without the aid of the Vernier scale which is not part of these calipers. Overall a great item for quick outside checks even with my bad eyes.I may flatten the outsides of the lower jaws or add pins on the top to make upper jaws for inside measurements.Perfect for pocket measuring anywhere, to within a sixteenth or one millimeter.

This will serve my purpose because I planned on remarking it before I bought it for a project I'm working on. At least for me, no harm, no foul. However, the one I received has 17 16ths in the first inch, and 11 mm to the first cm. Clearly mismarked. Mismarked measuring instruments are generally worthless. You can see what I'm referring to in the photo. 17 hashes to inch No. 1; 11 hashes to centimeter No. 1.If you don't get the "This is Spinal Tap" reference, "These go to 11!", check that movie out sometime. You'll laugh, just like I did when I looked at this caliper. I'd love to hear a technical answer to how this happened at the factory.

This ruler is very nice. It has both inches and millimeters. The only con is it doesn't is very easy to move off target. I like to set it when I need a recurring measure amount. It would be perfect if there was a screw in the center that could be tiedent.
