About this item

  • Hardened stainless steel construction with satin chrome finish, for protection of caliper
  • Measures outside dimension (OD), inside dimension (ID), step, and depth (when depth bar is included)
  • Raised sliding surfaces to help prevent defacement and wear of scale graduations
  • Modest, 14-degree face angle on vernier scale, for improving visibility and reducing the possibility of parallax errors
  • Meets Federal Accuracy Specifications GGG-C-111B

The Mitutoyo 530 series vernier caliper has two sets of jaws for measurement in metric units of outside dimension (OD), inside dimension (ID), step, and depth (when depth bar is included), for applications where the highest accuracy is required, especially in scientific research and in industries where parts must fit exactly.

The caliper has a dual vernier scale, with both the upper and lower scales measuring in metric units. A 14-degree vernier face angle improves visibility and helps prevent parallax error in measurement reading. The caliper’s two sets of jaws provide the capability to make OD and ID measurements, as well as step measurements, where the butt end of the fixed jaw measures one end of a work piece before its upper/lower or inner/outer steps are measured. When included, a depth measuring blade with rounded edges provides the ability to make depth measurements. The scales are raised to slide easily and protect the graduation markings. A thumbwheel permits fast and easy measuring. A clamping screw on the upper scale rotates to control scale movement and locks to hold the sliding jaw’s position. The caliper is made of hardened, corrosion-resistant stainless steel with a satin chrome finish that helps reduce glare. The caliper meets Federal Accuracy Specifications GGG-C-111B.

Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, and machining. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales. Vernier, dial, and digital calipers give direct and accurate readings and are functionally identical, having a calibrated scale with a fixed jaw, and another jaw with a movable pointer that slides along the scale. The vernier caliper has a scale sliding parallel to the main scale for an additional, fractional reading to improve measurement precision. The dial caliper has a circular dial with a pointer on a toothed gear rack replacing the second vernier scale. As with the vernier, this second measurement is added to the reading from the main scale to obtain the result. The digital caliper takes a differential by zeroing the display at any point along the slide, with an LCD that displays a single value in English and/or metric units.

Mitutoyo manufactures precision measuring tools, metrology equipment, and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and formed Mitutoyo America Corporation in 1963, which is headquartered in Aurora, IL.

This caliper is calibrated perfectly. It works well for metric measurements, with no dials to fall apart or digital readouts to fail. Great little tool.

These are Up to Mitutoyo's usual standards: well made, with spacious/easy-to-read scales, and are very crisp in operation. "Made in Japan". The 530-123 model (200mm metric vernier caliper) looks like it has a thumb-wheel, but this is not the case. It is basically just a knob. Also note that Mitutoyo supplies their tools (at least at this price level) in a flimsy vinyl case packaged in an equally flimsy carboard box (versus other brands, which are supplied in a relatively sturdy hard case). On top of that, mine was shipped to me in a padded envelope, not a box. Surprisingly, mine arrived with no damage in transit.

I have digital caliper from Mitutoyo and I am very happy with it. I am said to say that the caliper I am reviewing is not good. It does not slide well, and it has some rough surfaces. My friend told me it is fake, not a real Mitutoyo.

I've purchased a dozen Mitutoyo measuring tools in the past, though most were 10 years ago now. Extremely disappointed with the reduction of quality in that time. The sliding mechanism of this caliper is nothing like before, it feels less precise. Every other Mitutoyo tool I've purchased came with a solid plastic storage case, this comes with a cheap, thin pouch that offers no protection and will split apart with little use. This tool suit my needs of measuring the odd bolt here and there but I wouldn't buy it again.

Sehr schade.
