Winder arrived in perfect condition and couldn't have been easier to set up, although if you've not used one before it might take a second to figure out how to work it. When it says high speed, it is NOT kidding. I can go through a 6 ounce ball in about 8-10 minutes, if that. Depends on how many tangles the yarn gets itself into. The arm that holds the yarn wiggles a bit, but its fine if you get the bolt tight enough and make sure the arm goes UNDER the washer, not just the wingnut. Overall very sturdy, I've gone through easily 30 balls of yarn in about a week and it's not showing any signs of stress. Some of the gears are plastic, which disappointed me a bit, but its very sturdy plastic and they aren't thin or anything. It fits my desk nicely as well. the only yarn i have yet to try with it is super thick stuff. I have some lion brand hometown i haven't tried on it because i don't want to break anything, but i DID try it with size 10 crochet thread, which works better than you'd think. Still have to see if it'll take size 40 though. Now for the only downside I've found, it's noisy. Not earth-shatteringly noisy, but it makes quite a loud vibrating/rumbling noise into the table. For what its worth, my family isn't terribly bothered by it when I've got my bedroom door closed, but for anyone in the same room it's quite loud.Overall I'm very happy. Not going to claim it's the best out there, because i know there are more expensive, quieter models, but this one works really well for the price.

i bought this winder about 18 months ago and wound about 100 skeins of yarn ( if not more!) and i just wore it out! i have just purchased my second one and now i figure i can’t live with out one. i am no spring chicken and winding yarn the old way was too hard on my hands. i wish i had bought one sooner. it is heavy duty and quiet and it really works fast. don’t be afraid to invest in one even for the casual crocheter or knitter. pulling the yarn from the middle of the cake is so much nicer than chasing the ball around that the kitty stole. the cakes don’t roll around and are not much fun to chase. the only two issues i had was keeping the starting end in the groove so i pilfered some of my great granddaughters pigtail rubber bands to hold them in place and when i was done i put the cake in a baggy to keep it safe and clean ( the final end wanted to flap in the breeze). it is easy to assemble and use but the yarn guide wingnut likes to come loose so i keep a pair of needle nose pliers handy to tighten it occasionally. never write reviews but this one i felt i had to!! happy caking

This has made crafting so much more enjoyable. I’m able to cake larger skeins of yarn very quickly and easily. It’s hard for *me* to find the right flat surface to set it up on, it’s big and needs a lot of space that I don’t have. Something to consider if you have a small space.

It's loud, it's kinda cheaply made, and the packaging it is shipped in isn't great so it shows up looking pretty used and abused. In fact I thought that it was used and returned for being defective when it arrived but the company was great about shipping me another one in a timely manner and when that one arrived it looked just as beat up and used, so it I think it was just a lack of protection in the packaging. For the price, it works so well and is indeed very fast. It does take some tweaks and has a learning curve, but if you take the time to bend arms and figure out which way to spin it so that you can go really fast without the bobbin type part popping off, you'll be set and the only thing that will slow you down is the skein of yarn itself if it's one that is prone to tangling. I used a can cozie to put between it and the chair I used to spin it on and that both protects the wood and keeps the winder from wiggling around and coming loose. Any rubbery type material should work, like the non-skid stuff you line shelves with that you can get at the dollar store. If you can afford to spend twice the amount or more, I'd pass this and go for the higher end one like a Stanwood, but if you are like me and need a budget friendly winder and don't mind a little noise and putting a little effort into some tweaks and are smart enough to just wind the handle the opposite way if the middle part pops off, then you can't go wrong with this one. I had over 7 milk crates worth of yarn wound up in my free time over a few days, this thing is FAST and it definitely accommodates very large skeins. The customer service was great and if you have any issues they seem happy to help, as I said, they were quick to send me a new one when I thought the first one was someone elses' reject that was sent back for not working.

The worst piece of equipment I've ever used. It is so cheap and is not solid at all. The clamps and the guide hook don't work properly. The umbrella clamp is in the worst place where it keeps hitting the umbrella when I tighten it. I almost have to bend the whole thing to get it to clamp. The umbrella clamp in particular will absolutely destroy your furniture so beware. The yarn winder clamp is so narrow I can barely fit it on the edge of any surface un the house. Not worth the almost $50. As the gears are all extremely exposed and since the yarn guide hook is either worthless or broken on mine this does nothing but wrap the yarn around the gears ruining everything and wasting more time than rolling the balls by hand. I got this based on reviews and the pictures on the reviews look NOTHING like what I go so it's probably a much cheaper, worthless version of what used to be available on here. Add really bad packaging, no nags like the other people got, and no instructions to maybe make it go a little more smoothly. Don't waste your time because they're advertising a different product than what you get now.

I am very happy I bought a jumbo yarn winder. This works well and is nice and quick. The extra guide helps stop things tangle. I have wound all sizes of yarn on this, from small skeins of cotton to large chenille. Very highly recommend.

Affordable and easy to use. Does exactly what is required. No tangling if you keep a constant speed. So glad I bought this instead of the more expensive models.
