JJC 40.5mm Professional ND2-2000 Variable ND Filter (Adjustable 1 to 11 f-stops)
This JJC ND2-2000 Variable ND filter is designed with a built-in rotating ring that controls neutral density ranging from ND2 to ND2000 (1 to 11 f-stop). The heavier the density, the slower your shutter speed will be. It can reduce the amount of entering lights, but it does not change the original colors, which enables you to represent the photographic field. Another major benefit of this variable ND filter is the elimination of having to buy and carry around individual fixed ND filters. With this variable filter, you can rotate to the degree of ND you want, a real time and money saver.
Attention Please: When using this variable ND filter at high ND values (9 f-stop or above) on wide angle lenses, it would appear X cross mark, vignetting, or blur in the picture, this is unavoidable according to the structure and operating principle of a variable ND filter. If this is not acceptable to you, please go for a non variable ND filter, for example, a popular JJC brand fixed ND1000 10 f-stop ND filter. A fixed stop ND filter does not have the issue of X cross mark.
Why we need a Neutral Density Filter?
-- It enables slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed ISO, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds.
-- It decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background
-- It decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situation
-- It allows cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure

I purchased this for an upper level college class landscape assignment. My professor let me know that a common problem with variable filters is the vignetting or X on wide angle lenses or at higher stops on any lenses. The reviews let me know this piece would be no exception, but I only needed a 6 stop adjustment for my desired affect and for the price I got exactly what I hoped for. If you need more stops, look into other filters, or even a non variable set. But for a small investment, this filter is great and works well. I use a canon rebel t7 with the default 35-80mm lens and the 75-300mm lens with no vignetting on either of them while using this filter.

This is a special set of rings that fit specific cameras for added depth or special effects. You can really bump i in class if you learn to use these.

Note... I did not pixel peep but love this thing so far. In the past I have used several different ND filters on my DSLR. When I purchased my new mirrorless my main goal was video. Being able to make minor changes quickly while shooting is handy.

The ND filter is a necessary part for camera unless your camera has build in ND either physical one or electronic one. This variable ND works find when from ND2 ~ ND1000. when set ND beyond 1000 it gets too dark for daily vlogging shooting. If you are a professional photographer need to set ND to higher number then that's different story. However I did try to set to maximum ND 2000 with this on my ZVE10 it gets X image blurry on my display. I guess maybe my camera is not suitable for that high ND number.In collusion, ND filter is a must have item on your camera. With this one single variable ND lens I can carry less and easier for filming task.

I am disappointed that the nd2000 setting just gives garbage with blobs all over your photo. The photos with this review were however taken with ND1000 and that works well. The build of this filter is good, it screws on properly and gives no issue. Due to the positives I have given it 4 stars but intend to return the filter as the nd2000 setting does not work as advertised.

*UPDATED FROM 5 TO 1 STAR*: Had to try the ND filter recently at its full 2000 range. The ND fading was horrible and completely blemishes the middle like an X but leaves the corners and areas uncovered by the X at a much more exposed ratio. It makes the image look horrible and I even think that the center is even a harder density than 2000. Just creates a disgusting image. I'm a professional photo editor and even I can't clean that up. Image becomes unusable when used to its full capacity.The filter feels sturdy and the quality is VERY impressive. I've owned variable NDs in the past but was looking for something with a lot of versatility. I'm excited to try this when shooting video. Used recently capturing a pan shot in full daylight. Very happy with this and excited to try it on some moving bodies of water soon enough.
