I use a laser cutter, in which I just moved into a townhome where I wanted to limit the amount of smoke going to my neighbors, as I know it stinks and I don’t want to disturb them, so I looked into purifiers meant for lasers and OMG are they expensive! Insane for a box that just sucks air out of the machine into a filter. I debated a DIY version but I thought I’d give this a try first.I’ve used it one time and at first my inital thought was “well this is pointless” the smell of fumes absolutely filled my home even with all downstairs windows open, it smelt like a nail salon and it was absolutely horrible…Until today. I went to move my machine to where the back would blow out the window directly when I saw an additional carbon filter in the box so I though hmm maybe it doesn’t have the carbon filter in it lemme open it and check.. no there’s a carbon filter, but that’s it 🫣.I thought from the title that it would have came with a HEPA filter, but no it only came with a carbon and if you have 1 more brain cell than I you would know that isn’t going to cut down fumes whatsoever. It’s for particles not for smell/fumes.SO I just ordered my dumba$$ some HEPA filters (which is within the suggestions in the listing)As for noise: I think people in the reviews are just really sensitive to noise because this thing is quiet. It isn’t even as loud as a vacuum when on max, but maybe like a fan on high. The suction is great, it isn’t any extreme suction, and I wish there was a way to get a bigger hose, but I just got this small one within my larger hose on my laser cutter and it works great. So in the end 10/10 of you’re using this for smell, just do yourself a favor and save yourself some time, and get the HEPA filters!

If it came with the HEPA filters, they re-adjusted the suction level label and it was $20 cheaper. This would be the best beginner/semipro fume extractor on the market by far!Easy to assemble, looks good, performs well and with the HEPA filters gets the job done very well. The HEPA filter doesn't fit properly with the cardboard insert still inside it, I had to take it out. But on the HEPA filter page, from the seller, you can see the cardboard in there with the HEPA filter. Unless they removed the active carbon filter. The suction is very good, but it's also very loud, Which I don't mind as long as it's doing it's job.

This is a great product for the price. Most cheap fume extractors tend to be a fan mounted behind a carbon filter that you can never get into the right place to actually remove fumes. This product uses the superior design of more expensive professional fume extractors, which is so much better. The quality overall is quite good. The soldering on the PCB all looks good. The base is heavier than I expected it to be, Kotto achieved this by using two metal plates to mount in the bottom of the base. The mounting points are very nice, due to the fact that they actually used metal threaded inserts so it’s not just screwed into the plastic, like most cheap products would have done. They are standard M4-0.7 threads so you could use those to mount the base to your workbench or on the wall out of the way. The suction is great, but it is quite loud at its maximum speed. The hose extends up to 28” to the end of the fume hood, and the hose is 1.75” OD and 1.375” ID.When operating at its maximum speed it draws 2.88 Amps of current. The AC adapted is low quality and I would not recommend using it. I wired the unit directly to my 12 Volt distribution block I have for my work bench. The unit uses a standard 2.1mmx5.5mm DC power plug, the center pin being positive.Overall, I would certainly recommend this product to have on your workbench. I don’t think you would be able to find better quality at this price.

I've been heavily involved in electronics bench work for getting on 50 years and never needed or wanted something like this. But since I'm doing a lot more PCB assembly lately, I decided to get one. This Kotto unit is very inexpensive, probably about as cheap as you can get. It works pretty well, and it's kind of nice actually, when the work you're doing lends itself to being able to set this up.It's weighted a bit on the bottom for stability, but it easily slides around on the bench, so it might need some better rubber feet.I wouldn't say it's really a smoke absorber, but more of a smoke relocater. However, it's definately nicer to work with this then without it.It's also quite loud, since you have a large fan pulling a vacuum in a box that's about 12 inches from your head. I'm going to put it on a footswitch so I can trigger it as needed and not have it running constantly.I may just build a box for the blower, and put that part under the bench, connected via tubing to the intake. Should be quieter that way.

Pros:The vacuum head is movable so you can have it a few inches away from your workpiece. It's footprint is not too big so it does not occupy a large space on your desk.Cons:You will have to crank up the fan to get it to suck fumes nicely. Since it's using a centrifugal fan, it tends to be very loud so I wear my headphones when running this. The filter mount is very flimsy so I had to 3d print a different mount as mentioned by another customer.Overall, it's a good product that's not very expensive. Every hobbyist should use this instead of the standing fan type as it can move the fumes further away from you when you are working on PCBs a lot.

There are better alternatives for the price range. The filter holder was made of CARDBOARD cut to shape!!!!
