Withstands High Temperature - Great Insulator
The IFB insulating refractory bricks are rated for high temperature uses. The light weight fire brick application is broad, mainly as insulator in industrial and hobby kilns, forges, furnaces heated by electric spiral elements or gas burners for hot face lining or outer heat insulation.

Insulating Fire Brick Applications
Soldering Surface for Jewelry Maker: You can easily solder jewelry on this fire brick. You may drill little holes in the brick to keep your jewelry in place while soldering. The fire brick allows you to solder more quickly and efficiently because you can concentrate the heat where you want it.
PMC+ and PMC3 Metal Clay Firing: Jewelry makers can use this fire brick as a safe surface for firing metal clay with a butane torch.
Kiln for Pottery Making: This insulating firebrick is also great to build larger kilns for pottery makers. If you have a missing or defective kiln brick, you found the perfect replacement brick to fix your oven.
Build a Mini Forge: The Lynn Manufacturing Insulating Firebrick is perfect to build a mini forge for knife making. There are many tutorials online on how to use fire bricks to build a mini forge.
Structural density is in direct correlation with how brittle or soft the brick is. A 2300 F rated IFB is much softer and brittle than a 3000 F IFB, but the insulation is much better on the 2300 F rated brick. The insulation value after all comes from the porosity in the material. You can see the small voids in the detail pictures. Please choose your brick according to the properties for your desired application.

I couldn't find ytong in the States so I bought this instead. Works great for making ant formicariums. Very easy to work with. I carved the tunnels out with a screw driver. It might be a little more delicate than ytong but seems to work fine.

I don't like how they just chip away after first firing. I kinda thought we had successfully found a fire brik that was cheap and easy to use. At least that's what I thought.

Not the easiest thing to find in retail stores … asked people at Depot and Lowe’s and I got the deer in headlights stares both times cause neither knew what I was talking about … glad I found them on Amazon — they arrived in good condition… the box looked like it survived Hurricane Sandy but the actual items were mostly in tact and useableRecommended
