What pressure should well tank be set at?

Well tank’s pressure should be set at 2 psi below the pressure switch’s cut-on point. Most well tanks come set at 30/50. The cut-on pressure for the well pump is 30 psi, so the pressure of the tank should have a pressure of 28 psi. If your well tank is on a 40/60 pressure switch, your pressure setting should be 38 psi.

How to check well tank’s pressure setting?

Wait until the tank is full, then turn a faucet on in your house. As water flows out of the tank and into your home, the pressure in the tank will gradually decrease. Watch the pressure switch until your submersible well pump kicks on. If the pump kicks on at 30 psi, your tank is likely set at 30/50. If your pump turns on at 40, your pressure switch is probably set to 40/60.

1

Cut the power to your well tank.

Make sure that you shut off your well’s submersible pump to prevent it from starting.

MA017

Drain the well tank.

If you try to read the pressure of a tank full of water, you will only read the pressure of the water inside the tank, not the pressure. This is inaccurate.

MA017

Locate a pressure gauge.

Pressure gauges (also known as tire gauges) read the pressure of the tank by using a piston to propel a calibrated spring when exposed to pressurized air.

2

Adjust the pressure with an air compressor if necessary.

The pressure of your tank should be 2 psi below the pressure switch’s low cut-in point, If your pressure is below this, carefully use an air compressor to amplify the pressure until it has reached the appropriate pressure setting.

Perfect replacement and is working perfectly. They typically need replacing every 3-5 years so keep a extra replacement in a sealed plastic bag in my well house. Less stress … happier life. Don’t do this with spouse lol!

I bought this to replace the original on our well pressure tank. The first one I bought started leaking inside fairly soon but getting a replacement was easy. The second one has held up for over a year with no problems. It is well made and easy to read.

Gauge is 1/4 NPT and has 1/4 to 1/2 NPT adapter for easy installation. works well for my application we were not looking for great accuracy so that I cannot speak on. We were looking for more change in pressure and for that it is great. It does seem to be accurate just never checked it for that.

What can I say? It’s a pressure gauge and it works. The nice thing is that it come with a bushing to go from 3/8” IP to 1/4” IP. Good value for both. The bushing would cost $6 or more at the hardware store

First one I ordered lasted only one month then registered zero no matter what the pressure. Second one I ordered the needle wasn't connected to the center and was broken right away. Junk at best

Purchased this earlier this year when I had to replace my pool pump. The new cartridge filter did not come with a pressure gauge, so I installed this one at the top. Very simple install and very accurate. Lets me know when it's time to flush out the cartridge (when the pressure rises notably above the initial "clean" pressure. Great product.

Has lasted the longest out of any gauge I've purchased for the filter on my pool pump. Accurate and steady.
