The Thermopile is a kind of temperature sensor that can get signal from the heat and creat voltage to open and close the valve and let the heater gas in and close.
The neccessary working temperature of the thermopile which need to reach 750mV is required 1202°F temperature heating.
So if the valve cannot be opened, you may need check if the temperature of flame is enough , sometime need replace orifice or pilot.

- The Thermopile is a Replacement of Fireplace Pilot Burner Assemnly Parts with Internal resistance (25°C) around 4000 mΩ and heating voltage above 750mV normally installed on plilot assembly used for fireplaces, frying, heating appliance
- It will needs about 60 seconds (2 minutes ) to heat up to the 750mV and the flame should be heat the middle of the head sensor, So you may need time to waiting the valve start work.

The wiring on this unit is very well designed and was a drop-in replacement for the original thermopile on my Bradford White water heater. Works great out of the box.

Replaced from a 3 year old Reliance 12-50-NACT 400. Should be a simple replacement but I struggled in a couple steps. I recommend any home to do’ers.

Was not my issue and turned out to be a gas valve. Product came as described, was the part I thought I needed, really wished it was the problem. Would buy again if needing a thermal coupler

The wiring is reversed and will not allow the thermopile circuit to function. I had to disassemble the terminal to locate the red wire on the left and white wire on the right, as shown in the photos.

First time trying to restore my hot water heater. Ordered this thermopile after careful troubleshooting and deciding this is the issue. My pilot light would not stay on until I placed this part in.I repeated troubleshooting steps and measurements and was very happy to see the voltage reading above 400 mV under load. It has ben running for 3 month no without dropping the pilot light and operating the valve solenoid as expected.Happy with this $30 solution that saved me few hundreds of $$$.

There’s nothing wrong with this product. It worked. The wiring was backwards.
