This order arrived a couple days early, nothing to with the product, but special thanks to Amazon and its affiliates. My biggest complaint was the one-page "manual" that pointed out the various receptacles, buttons, knob, and listed specifications, but, how much info does one need? If you need more, YouTube has plenty of info on preamps.I tried the unit and was totally surprised at just how near perfect the quality and operation is. The gain went from almost none to too much, so needed input can be set to perfection. Tone quality is unsurpassed. I highly recommend this preamp, it takes up very little space, works fantastically - even brought my old Shure Unisphere A back to life...

This device and its other-branded clones seem to work well and have quite adequate, adjustable gain. The documentation is essentially useless, as is the apparently inaccurate panel labeling. The real panel 3.5mm “Line Out” TR or TRS (who knows) does not produce any signal from the from front panel XLR microphone input, however the real panel XLR “Microphone Output” does provide a well amplified (to line level) output. I used a female XLR to 6.35mm (¼”) TRS to connect the Microphone Out to a balanced line input on a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 3rd Gen audio interface and with a Shure PG58 dynamic mic plugged into the front panel Microphone In, there was more than adequate gain that was similar to the same mic connected to the mic pre input on the 18i8. It’s not at all clear how any other signal path works with the other jacks. I did not test the 6.35mm “Mic/Instrument” jack on the front panel, nor do I know if it is a balanced (TRS) or unbalance (TS) input. I confirmed that the signal path for my application does work. I may update this review when and if I test a different use case. The documentation and ambiguous labeling of the panel are the reasons I gave a 4 star review. I do plan to order a second of these preamps, however. It does appear a good value for field audio recording. I did not perform any quantitative tests on preamp noise, but it is audibly acceptable.

Pros and Cons.OK I'll give the Cons upfront because they really are not an issue once you know about them. There is a noticeable pop when powering on and off. Ok that's really it.What you get is a Premium Mic Preamp and line driver with up to +75 dB of volume. It's clean and transparent gain with ultra low distortion and latency. The microphone preamp comes with selectable 48V phantom power. Can be used as an instrument preamp and it has multiple outputs like XLR balanced output and 6.35mm stereo mic & line output that can be connected with audio interface, mixer, console and audio speaker and others audio devices and it's ideal for home studios, professionals, vocal recording, podcasting, and live streaming. It's worked for me and we may be added it to a dj controller for driving a remote set of speakers soon!

I tested this pre amp using the Shure SM7B, a microphone known for needing a boost in gain with most audio interfaces. I got the best results setting the interface at about 1/4 gain, and then adjusting this pre amp to get the desired level. Running the gain too high on the interface will start introducing noise. I had originally set the interface gain at a level I would use with a Cloud Lifter, and it sounded like a poorly tuned shortwave radio (even with the pre amp set to its minimum gain). The gain boost while using this is more than enough for the SM7B, and assuming the interfaces gain is set correctly, it sounded very clean. I would have liked to have seen a slightly longer power cable, 3 ft is a little on the short side. A good yet affordable pre amp option. I recommend it, and I’ll certainly be using it!
