Works great to get a cup of boiling water, especially if you start with warm water.

I purchased this for travel, specifically an upcoming trip to Las Vegas where the fancy hotel doesn't have coffee makers in the room. Well, I tested it out at home and it worked ok once. Tried it again the next day and it did nothing. Didn't heat up at all. It's not my electrical outlet the fuse wasn't tripped. So it just must have been a dud. But of course this is after the return window had closed so I am SOL. I hesitate to buy another one because I am afraid the exact thing will happen again. Maybe I will just have to drink overpriced Las Vegas hotel coffee....

I use this immersion heater in the bathroom to warm the distilled water that I use when flushing my sinuses. I first bought this same model 6 years ago, and bought another now when the first one failed (the failure was my fault, not the device's).It does a great job of warming a cup of water. And apparently, absent user error, it will last over 6 years.

Good for making coffee or raman noodles in a college dorm or a cell. Don't let the heating coil ever get out of the water while plugged in. Even for a second. The heating element burns up very quickly and I have ruined more than one in the blink of an eye. While you think that you are getting away with taking it out of the water and nothing happens, inside the metal tube the heating element is being burned. The loss of ANY part of the conductor inside increases the resistance, which overheats the element, which in turn consumes more conductor and now you have created an endless cycle that eventually kills the unit. Only use it in clear water only (add hot chocolate, coffee, raman noodles later) because it turns semi solids into hard glazed epoxy that can't be removed, even if you have a 5 year sentence and a steel brush. That's because the outer heating element covering tube, or housing, is coiled so tightly that it touches itself. This makes it impossible to clean between the coiled tube and it will then emit foul tasting, burnt, black flakes until you are eventually driven crazy and smash it against something hard. Just sayin. Don't do it. Only water. Keep submerged while plugged in.

Bought this March 2023. It works! 2 yrs in and still going strong. My mom and g-ma had one, so glad to know that sometimes old school just works. Definitely worth the investment!
