About this item

  • 73 days from setting out transplants. Indeterminate. With earlier maturity and superior disease tolerance, Big Beef Hybrid bears at least DOUBLE the number of extra-large, extra-meaty, extra-tasty fruits of other varieties in its class.
  • Start seeds indoors 5 to 6 weeks before the last frost date. Plant outdoors when danger of frost is past and night temperatures consistently remain above 55 degrees F.
  • If an unexpected late frost is forecasted, protect young plants with plastic sheeting or other cover. Set plants 2 to 2 1/2 feet apart.
  • The fruits have better shape, color, and old-time tomato flavor, too! No wonder Big Beef won an AAS award!
  • These well-adapted, indeterminate plants are tolerant of, or resistant to, Verticillium Wilt, Fusarium Wilt races 1 and 2, Tobacco Mosaic Virus, Root Knot Nematodes, and Stemphylium (Gray Leaf Spot).

150 Years and Still Growing

Park Seed

One of America's oldest and largest mail-order seed and plant companies, the Geo. W. Park Seed Company, was founded in 1868 by 15-year-old George W. Park in Libonia, Pennsylvania. Today our gardeners number in the millions, yet we still adhere to Mr. Park's original motto. We may be connecting online through social media rather than handwritten letters, but the spirit and the result is the same: bringing the joys of gardening to as many people as possible.

All these seeds sprouted. I've been buying from Park Seed for decades and will continue in the future.

Our local You Tube Garden blogger was talking about this variety at the end of summer 2023. She showed how productive these determinate plants were. I had little experience with determinate tomatoes, but thought I would try them. The seedlings were not promising because they just didn't look as strong as some of the indeterminate varieties I started. However, once in the ground, they just took off. It is now 10/12/2024 and thus far we have canned 30 pints of crushed tomatoes and have frozen two one-gallon bags of roasted halved, Supremo tomatoes. The plants still have more tomatoes on them than we will know what to do with. It's a good thing my neighbor will take any produce I send her way.I absolutely will plan on planting this variety again next year. Zone 5b.

I have grown Celebrity tomatoes in my home garden for years, best flavor of any variety. But I had increasing trouble with blight. When I saw this new variant promising improved disease resistance, I had to try it.I started half a dozen Celebrity and half a dozen Celebrity Plus. All the plants grew well and produced tomatoes with the distinctive Celebrity flavor. The Celebrity Plus was clearly superior in blight resistance, as advertised. However, the earliest C+ fruits were more prone to catfacing deformity than the Celebrity.Overall, very satisfied. I will definitely go with Celebrity Plus from now on.

I planted 20 seeds. Half have been at 75F for 12 days. Only 1 sprouted, and the seed shell stuck on the growth tip and killed it. I planed the other half earlier and kept inside, but the temperature was below 70F. I raised the temp to 75F 12 days ago, and only 2 sprouted, and 1 of these had the same problem as the one mentioned above, and it died. So I got 1 good seedling out of 20 seeds. There is no date on the seed packet, only a lot number, BA20070004. Maybe these are seeds from 2007. They certainly are not good anymore.

These seeds from this vendor appear much stronger and healthier than my seedlings from other vendors on Amazon, maybe because these came hermetically sealed in an aluminum envelope. All seeds were planted identically in the same potting soil and receive the same water and humidity /light and warmth. Lighting is from a 31W CMH 3K+ bulb. These seedlings are already twice the side of the others and have their 3rd set of leaves, the others are still catching up with the first set of leaves and /or are just sprouting. I will probably only buy from this company moving forward, esp if they will carry the Orange Ox Heart Heirloom variety.
