Most grasses require at least four hours of sunlight to survive, which can make growing grass in shady areas a frustrating task. With the premium tall fescue varieties that The Rebels is known for, Shady Lawn Mix offers the ideal solution for these challenging areas. This grass is tough. It has thick, deep, and dense roots that result in excellent drought and traffic tolerance. Plus, it only needs 2 to 6 hours of sunlight. Plant it in early spring or early fall and see results in 8 to 16 days. This 20-pound bag covers up to 5,000 square feet for overseeding an existing lawn and 1,660 square feet for starting a new lawn from scratch. The Roots of the Rebels Brand dates back to 1979, when turf researchers at Rutgers University released a revolutionary new grass. Known as 'Rebel,' it was the very first example of what's now known as turf-type tall fescue. Compared to traditional tall fescue, Rebel offered lower growth, finer texture, darker color and denser turf — plus the drought tolerance that makes turf-type tall fescue a homeowner favorite. Generations later, with up to 40 percent more roots than ordinary grass, The Rebels Brand Extended Root seed varieties represent the best turf-type tall fescue on the market. With roots like those, it's only natural that The Rebels Brand carries the Pennington name.

Manufactures know that and coating is cheaper than seed, so it is hard to find uncoated seed now.

I planted my seed in mid-fall and needed more seed so I called the manufacturer and asked about the fall planting schedule ( if I had enough time in the season) . On the bag it stated spring/fall is the best time to plant grass seed . BUT they said they do not recommend planting in the mid fall , wait till spring !Well I had already planted my first large bag of seed and nothing is coming up. This was a Rebel shade seed blend . So now what ?

Bought 3 large bags to heavily overseed our yard. The ground was raked and loam was added and I would say approximately 1/4 of all the seed germinated. That is with irrigation watering regularly. Very disappointed in the result.

After prepping the area, aerating and de-thatching, I spread the seed out per instructions. Began daily soaking with a soaker hose. Unfortunately I was had to travel for work and was unable to water for a couple days, after 20+ plus days, little example of anything sprouting.

Bought this to overseed my front lawn to fill in thin areas. Applied per recommendations. Even put down compost and starter fertilizer. It’s been down a month with daily watering and I see lots of ungerminated seeds and don’t see any new sprouts. Either a terrible product or a bad batch with poor quality control.
