Wow! This is the greatest tool ever! I had no idea what I was missing - I should have purchased one of these long ago. It worked perfectly for some spring clamps located low on the firewall in one of my cars where nothing else could reach. I also bought some heavier duty spring clamps to replace the originals and this tool worked perfectly on them. I am surprised how securely it grabs the clamp arms. I have spent too many years fighting with pliers and vise grips that slip off at just the wrong moment, leaving the clamp arms in a more awkward position than when started. The ratcheting feature is awesome in that you can set it to open the clamp to a particular position and then be able to focus on getting it into place among the spaghetti factory of wires and hoses. With my situation, I positioned and located the clamps on the fittings, leaving the tool on each clamp as the new hose was pushed into place on the fitting. Lift the clamp up onto the hose with the tool and release - easy as that.

There are times when only a tool like this will work. It’s nice to have on hand. Not an everyday tool but definitely needed

I own several of these cable type clamp pliers. They are essential for tough to reach hose clamps...and they ALL are. An unreachable clamp can stop you dead in the water on repair work. THIS design gives you increasing mechaical advantage as the spring clanp gets stiffer and stiffer when spreading open. No other designs do that. Even so, on largest clamps, you'll STILL need both hands! You'll also want to grease up (very tiny amount) the black, sliding end of the handle mechanism (the roll pin that slides in grooves on each side and the sliding parts of the silver clamp end. ALL of these cable pliers require two hands. But the cheaper makes (usually come in inexpensive kits) you can't squeeze hard enough to hit the last "click" in the locking mechanism on large clamps such as main radiator hoses; you will not get it off! Quality (higher price) makes all the difference although they will look identical. This tool is quite heavy duty, high quality and slender for down in access. (The ratcheting type (like a caulk gun) and have control issues and bulky size issues although they are easier to squeaze at the handle.

Prevents any over-tightening, and man if you’ve ever worked in a BMW engine bay, you’ll understand why these are life savers lol

This tool exceeded my expectations while removing some spring clamps where a regular set of pliers just wouldn't fit. The locking mechanism is functional, but I found it harder to release when clamps were fully opened/the tool was contracted towards the end of its travel. This didn't impact me, so it still earned 5 stars from me.I used this tool on a VW/Audi intake/turbo pipe spring clamp with a 2-3" diameter in case others are looking to solve a similar problem.

Would not reccomend this product for large radiator clamps.

Stop using pliers and get one of these. Makes removing hose clamps easy. Quality if fine for home use.

I can't believe it took me this long to buy this tool. This makes getting factory hose clamps so much easier than channel lock type pliers. Even the clamps on the lower radiator hoses come off with ease as the cable is long enough to reach the lower hoses from the top. No more crawling underneath the vehicle of fighting with trying to get pliers to fit the clamp that is facing away from you. Automatically locks into place once you open up the clamp so you can slide it back without holding pressure on the tool. A must for any gearhead or DIY shade tree mechanic
