Glad I had a socket adapter for my electric drill as it made running all the torx screws out then back in so much quicker than doing it by hand. I also hit the locking mechanism with a shot of lithium grease as its operation was a bit rough. Well built and works great.

worked on my 2002 tacoma quad cab. be careful not to yank on anything and you’ll be fine when installing. The latch locks from one side and i’ve noticed a lot of guys on here don’t like that. To be honest, it works as good as a window does.. if someone wants to get in, they’ll throw a brick through it and boom they are in. This isn’t designed to stop Sherman, your auto will never be like fort knox. This is to try and stop the walk by criminal that’s checking to see if things are unlocked. it works, it locks, the install was easy. 5 stars

This is likely a fine product if it can be installed. But if you are ording this particular model, your vehicle is at least 10 years old and some corrosion is likely involved, at least if you live in a northern climate. Also involved is some engineering by Toyota that does not lend itself to disassembly and reassembly. My Tacoma is a 2003, other years may be different. The part of the tailgate latch assembly that is screwed to the tailgate is plastic. The head of the screws are on thick washers on the sheet metal of the tailgate. The screw then goes through the plastic of the latch assembly and into nuts that are (were) fused to the plastic. A likely result of all of this is that when you try to remove the screws from the latch assembly, the nuts come loose from the plastic and you're at a stalemate..the latch can neither be removed nor reattached. The nuts are completely hidden from view and are not accessible. The only way I can see to continue would be to break away the plastic and get an entire new mechanism. So that's what I'll do, but I'm returning the Pop & Lock and buying another product which has the latch and lock together in one unit.I would suggest that if you do decide to try a Pop & Lock with your older Tacoma that you proceed with the included instructions as far as removing the inner panel from the tailgate. Then stop! Apply some penetrating oil to the latch assembly screws and let it work for a few days. Then slowly and gently try loosening the screws with your #3 Phillips or metric socket. That might have a possibility of working.

Easy to install if you are somewhat handy with tools. Nice deturrent but like most things if someone really wanted to get in they would. It's plastic and the tailgate design doesn't offer a ton of options for security but this is a nice addition.

This product fit my 1998 toyota tacoma xtracab 6' bed. The installation was pretty easy took maybe 39 minutes. The design works but the product once installed seems a bit mikey mouse for me. Maybe it will keep the real criminals out on my bed!
