We were using a different type of pad holder with elevated sides but it didn't have a grate. So our puppy was constantly grabbing and tearing up her pads in spite of our best efforts to train her not to. I could be standing 3 ft away and she would grab it and run faster than I could blink. The powdered granules in the pads are toxic, if swallowed, so it was constant vigilance to keep her safe. She was tracking urine on the floor and then we were getting it on our shoes. I was washing her paws daily because they would stink. A lot of reviews complained it didn't work for keeping paws dry. Thankfully, it works for our 9 1/2 lb Yorkiepoo but may not work well for larger dogs. Take into account that the larger the dog, the higher volume of urine output and also depends on the quality and absorbency of the pads you use. This tray solved all three problems. FINALLY - relief from frustration, peace of mind and a lot less work mopping floors and picking up torn pads = more time for other things! We were concerned she would have a hard time adjusting to the feel of the grate on her paws. We placed the tray in the same spot as the old one, put a pad in it with her urine scent in the center... and waited. She checked it out for a couple of minutes... she squatted...we cheered! As for ease of cleaning, it's a snap. I simply spray it down with vinegar or OUT enzyme spray, let it sit a few minutes to neutralize the odor and wipe dry with paper towels. I only have to clean it once a day. I've never had poop get stuck in the grate that required soaking or scrubbing with a brush as some others have stated. It's Nearly Perfect! The only improvement I would suggest for the manufacturer is to make the grate thicker and sturdier. It's a little flimsy when cleaning it but works fine when snapped into the frame and the pad underneath. It's not a deal breaker for me.After using this tray for a full day, I ordered a second one to put in our Richell Convertible Pet Play Pen (also a great product and purchased from Amazon). And for anyone wondering - it fits in the play pen and the (brown) color coordinates well. We've been using the trays for about 5 weeks and couldn't be happier. These trays changed our lives. Thanks Richell!

Our dog was always tearing apart her potty pads. We thought she'd grow out of it, but it's been a year and a half and she's still doing it. She only does it when we're gone, so we can never catch her in the act. So we tried taping them down, which didn't work. Then I made something that I would clip the edges of the pad into so that she couldn't pick it up, so she started scratching at the middle of the pads until it created a tear, and she would shred apart the pad from the middle, even though the edges were still attached to the device I made. It was always really frustrating to get home and see that she tore up the pad, and then went potty where the pad used to be.I found this product and figured I'd give it a try. Ever since the first day we used this, she goes potty on it and hasn't been able to tear up the pad. We didn't have to re-train her, we just put this tray in the same place as we've always had her pad. It will save us a bunch of money on potty pads, so it will pay for itself. It's so much nicer to get home now and not have to clean up the mess she made.As far as the product itself, I think the design is great, and it works perfectly for us. People talk about poo getting stuck in the grate, but that hasn't happened to us yet. It's easy to use, holds the pad securely, and I don't think there's any way our dog will be able to get it open. When you do need to clean it, it shouldn't be too hard.

Great quality for the price I got it for. One of the only training pads out there that had a protective grate for this cheap! It’s great for holding down a potty pad and the plastic grate keeps a pup from tearing it up. East to take apart and clean. Keeps the pup’s paws from becoming too wet with pee. *usually* it’s Easy to clean up poop, IF your pup’s pop is not super soft. I find that feeding my dog a consistent diet of dry (not soft) kibble and treats keeps his poo hard enough to easily pick up with toilet paper (lol at the gross detail but you gotta know!) overall, I would definitely recommend for price

UPDATE: It still looks almost brand new 10 months later! At least once a week, I take it apart and hose it off, spray with diluted bleach, and then let dry outside. I do it more often if she used it for #2. I found you can only fold pads that are slightly larger. Since the grate is not raised, too thick of a pad wouldn't work with this. For reference, Costco brand puppy pads must be cut in half. If I had one criticism, it's that the shape of the pad does not allow it to sit completely flush against the wall, so occasionally she does pee over the edge.Do you work full time? Are you trying to potty train a puppy? Is he/she a picky dog that doesn’t like to walk over the “used” parts of the pee pad? This is for you! Previously, my puppy thought a pee pad was a one time use product, as she shouldn’t have to walk over the wet parts of the pee pad. Now, the grate remains dry and sits over the pad so she can use it more than once! This has significantly cut down on accidents! Also, since it’s raised, the “potty area” is clearly defined so she doesn’t pee over the edge anymore! I felt it was very pricey for what it is, but I’ve been so much happier with so much less to clean. I don’t think I would’ve gotten the same results with the pad holders without grate. Expensive, but worth it!

In short, the space under the grid is not deep enough. My poor pups (chorkies) unfortunately have worms and are pooing weird jello like poop this wouldn't be too much of an issue if it fell through the cracks of the grid! With a mat in it the poop literally sits right on top of the grid and even when trying to pick/scoop up the poop it smears into the grid and is hard to clean which eventually causes it to stick to the pad and surface. When poops are normal/solid it's good but if your doggie isn't having normal bowel movements this ISN'T for you. I gave 2 star at first but, changed it because it does however keep my pups from ripping apart the pee pad.

This product is just great!! No wet paws, no wasting money on multiple reusable pee pads. Our puppy learned how to use it from the first time after being trained earlier on washable pee pads for a week. I used a trick of one of the reviewers here and put on top of pee pad 2 squares made from nylon cable ties. It creates some space between pee pad and the grate and my cavalier has his paws perfectly dry each time. And yes, everything fits inside and the tray clicks nicely. I use Amazon basic pee pads or Walmart ones 22x22 (1 per day and i fold them a little bit from one side) and wash it in a bath tub in the evening with soap rinsing throughly. I have 2 of these trays. The tray helped us extremely from accidents on our rugs (he cannot mistaken them with pee pads). It may produce some very light odour during a day so we got electric air fragrance from Walmart and put it on the lowest set. Amazing! I have a super advise for everyone who tries to teach its dog to make his business on indoor potty: only positive reinforcement.....it means high quality treats for a job well done....Walmart/Safeway roasted chickens for 10 bucks. We buy these chickens once week for a dinner and leftovers are in a plastic box in the refrigerator. Each time 3 pieces of chicken. Works like a charm! You do not need to make any efforts more than that. He pees on the tray....chicken. He pees on a floor....no chicken. And NO chicken for anything else! Only for using his potty!!! We used cheerios for training tricks like sit or roll. Your puppy will learn in a few days to use its tray.....guaranteed!

This is my 4th puppy. I used “the blue potty training Mats” for all of them. This was my first time using the tray and it made things much easier and cleaner. No puppy fun of ripping up the potty mat. It’s an investment but makes life much easier. Good quality and easy to clean.
