Product Description

Solar panels

How many hours of direct sunlight does a Ring Solar Panel need for my device to stay charged?

For best performance, Ring recommends at least 2-3 hours of direct sunlight per day for Solar Panel. With the recommended amount of direct sunlight, the device will remain continuously charged under most conditions. Make sure there are no obstructions or objects that could cast a shadow on your solar panel, such as an extended roof, tree, or bush.

Will solar power keep my Ring device charged during cloudy or seasonal weather?

Ring solar products require direct sunlight to stay charged and provide power to the device. If the weather is cloudy or it rains/snows, this would limit the direct sunlight your device receives, which would lessen the charge. Colder temperatures may also cause excessive drain to your device’s lithium-ion battery. With prolonged cloudy or winter weather, you may need to manually recharge the battery more frequently. When sunny weather returns and the solar panel receives enough direct sunlight again, it will keep the device powered.

How can I install my solar panel to get the most sunlight and the maximum solar charge?

Seasonality and how far north or south you live affects the strength of the sun. If you live in the northern hemisphere, install your solar panel facing South. If you live in the southern hemisphere, install it facing North. Ring recommends to use the adjustable arm to angle the panel at about 45 degrees toward the sky to get the most sunlight possible.

Will a Ring solar panel keep my device fully charged at 100% battery level?

The battery level of the device will vary based on the amount of direct sunlight the solar panel receives. Even with exposure to maximum sunlight, the battery level will not exceed a threshold of around 80%—this is to extend the lifetime of the battery.

Got tired of having to charge my outdoor ring. The flood light really drains the battery fast. This works exactly as described and I never have to take it down.

It was cloudy for the first 2 days of having it installed but it still slowly charged my camera battery, it was at 14% 3rd day it’s sunny so I checked the ring app and it has my camera at 100% we will see how long it lasts but this was definitely worth the purchase in my opinion

It works great until doesn’t work anymore. It only last about 4 months. It was install on very dry location with full clearing to the sun. Sent a message to seller about product warranty and no response. You’re better off paying a little more and buying the Ring Solar Panel which comes with a standard 1 year warranty.

Several months into use and keeping cameras fully charge with just a few hours daylight. Would recommend.

I wasn't sure if I needed to go with the 6 watt solar panel output, or this one which is 4 Watts, but this one works great. It's been on the roof near my ring stick-up camera for almost exactly 3 days. They were not exactly screaming hot, sunny days either... one day was totally socked in with clouds. In the attached photos you can see I started out at 36% on my battery, and today it was 100%. This solar panel is nice and small and is all you'll need.

I installed it quite easily. The cables are plenty long enough, mounting bracket and hardware are included. It has maintained the battery in my ring stick up cam at 100% ever since. It has also allowed me to get more frequent snapshots recorded from the camera because I'm no longer concerned with the battery life.I do have a Ring solar panel connected to a different stick up cam and I am actually going to replace it with this one. The Ring variety allegedly does something called optimized charging, which cannot be overridden. I'd prefer for it to charge everytime the solar panel has sun light available, not wait for the battery to fall below a certain threshold before it charges. What if that threshold comes and there's inclement weather? I live in AZ, so not very likely here, but..... something for potential purchasers to consider when making their decision.I'd buy this one all day over the Ring one, it's less expensive AND no more getting up on a ladder to change batteries! SCORE!
