This is a great little novelty for a little bit of fun and joy, if you are musically inclined. The sound of this (3 inch) drum is delicate and soothing and honestly is just a cool thing to have laying around. I think it makes a good gift for the right person, especially someone who is maybe a little bit hippie or a creative type.I do want to stress, I do not think this is an appropriate toy for a young child, in spite of what the online images depict. Mainly, this thing is a metal hockey puck. Imagine a small child chucking it at a sibling's head. If you do let a small child play with it, I would want to watch them and guide them closely. I know with my own child, we would eventually have a broken window or TV screen if she got her hands on it.It comes with a lovely printed pull-string pouch and a mini mallet for hitting the notes. The advertised images show two mallets but that was not the case for the one I received. I wish I had both mallets for 2-handed playing. Oh well.There is a little leaflet with some song suggestions inside, however the printing is so tiny there is no way I could make it out. Lastly, some of the notes play noticeably louder than the others so you have to vary the striking force to get the same volume. Even with all these shortcomings, I still enjoy playing with this miniature chime/drum just for the fun of it.

This drum sounds cool, it's easy to play, and it feels like a fair deal at the current $15 price. It comes with a pretty durable drawstring bag to keep it in, and a little packet of simple songs you can play. All the pictures on the Product Page show 2 drumsticks next to each of the 2 different sized drums, but mine only came with 1 stick. The larger 6 inch drum also seems to come with a bigger song book, a little rack to hold the sticks, and some finger tapping ring things you can use to drum with as well, so you might consider that model, or both, if you want all those accessories, because the 3 inch version only comes with the bag, small song 'book', and in my case, only 1 drumstick. I have no way of knowing if the big one only comes with the 2 sticks, but I am just going off of the pictures they put on the website showing 2 sticks lying next to the 3-inch AND 6-inch drums.If I knew it was only supposed to come with 1 drumstick, I could accept that, but since they showed pictures of 2 sticks lying next to the drum, I can only assume they neglected to give me one, so I had to go with 3 Stars since I can't play it as it seems to be intended to be played.

I was really excited to receive this item, but it ended up being somewhat disappointing. The notes sound very tinny and unappealing. Moreover, depending on which note you strike, there's a MASSIVE variance in how the note resonates. Some of them vibrate wonderfully, but others die out almost immediately. Overall, I probably would not purchase this item again.

This is a nicely designed and packaged product, but it's very limiting. It doesn't put out a very loud sound and the top octave note doesn't ring out very well. I waited until it rained before posting a review because I wanted to see if it would work as advertised as a rain drum (even though there's a graphic on the product page that suggests that you don't actually use it in the rain). It suggests that you place it under some sort of awning and let the raindrops drop down onto it. Even still, it doesn't put out a very loud sound. And it seems like the product might get rusty, so I decided to bring it back inside. I suppose it's a decent product for a child to play with, it's just not something I would use more than once or twice.

This was a bit smaller that I thought it would be. Most of the keys worked but the 1 and the 7 small keys did not work like the others. It was disappointing when I tried to play a little melody and every time I hit one of those keys, it was a muted sound. I then thought that maybe I wasn't hitting the keys properly, so I experimented and I still could not get the distinctive tone of each of those 2 keys to ring.All the other keys worked just fine with a nice clear tone. Maybe with the small size of the drum overall along with the even smaller size of the cutout for the keys, makes them too small to properly ring out a nice tone. Oh well. This drum does have nice tones for the large keys, but not the smaller ones.
