The CJ603E is a simple, easy-to-operate chipper that produces decent wood chips quickly. There are a few consumer-created videos out there; I recommend watching them, they do a better job giving an honest analysis of the device than a write-up can. I'll get into some finer points below for anyone who finds them useful, but the TLDR is: The machine works great, just make sure you set it up correctly, don't skimp on the wire gauge of your extension cord (super important - if you read one thing below, make it that) and keep the rotor cleared out. If you have any issues with the device, give Sun Joe a call. They pick up their phone, a real human talks with you, and they bend over backwards to get you up and running. EXCEPTIONAL customer service. Some particular points I'll mention now that I've used the chipper for a couple hours:It grinds branches up to 1.5 inches diameter easily, which is pretty thick for an electric chipper. The specs say it'll take branches wider than that, but I don't push it. The input chute acts as a gauge for maximum branch width. With a little common sense, you'll never have a problem with branch size. Steer clear of branches you have to pry and force to fit, odd bits of hardware, lengths of rebar, unpopular in-laws, etc. and you'll be fine.Keep the output chute clear. Wood chips will stack under it, then up into it and finally into the mechanism if you don't sweep them away. From time to time, it helps to shove a stick up into the output chute and rattle it around. You'll get a slot-machine jackpot of wood chips that were stuck to the rotor. Looking down into the input chute, you'll have a clear view of when the rotor is getting clogged and needs that help.It grinds wood just fine but doesn't do much with foliage. If you're looking to make fine leaf mulch, there are other machines for that. If you want wood chips, this is likely the lowest cost, highest quality option and offers maximum convenience of use.IMPORTANT POINT: If you don't know about extension cord wire gauges, take a few minutes to read online about them. You'll save yourself a burned-out motor and extend the life of your other electrical tools while you're at it. For this chipper, make sure you're using a cord with at least a 12-gauge wire for cords up to 50 feet. For anything longer than that, you'll want to buy a 10-gauge extension cord. Yes, it costs almost as much as the chipper, but all of your electric tools will last a few years longer, so it pays you back. We're running this chipper on a 100 foot 10-guage cord that is as thick as a man's finger and weighs a ton, and it has done a SUPER job.Again, Sun Joe's customer service is unbelievable, especially considering the price level of this product. They picked up the phone on the second ring and shared useful information. We ended up needing a new unit, which they offered right away. They shipped it the instant the old unit was dropped off at UPS and we were chipping wood 18 hours later. As I write this, we're up and running with our new chipper while UPS has yet to deliver the old one to Sun Joe. And Sun Joe paid for all the shipping, all the way around. I actually worry about their ability to stay in business with customer service that good. Amazing job, guys.In short, this device is a great deal that may not last long. I'd get one while you can, set it up properly and use it for a long, long time.

I bought this chipper to replace a Sun Joe CJ602 with a burnt-out motor. I've also used an Earthwise 15-amp chipper with a similar design and similar capabilities to the CJ602.Here's the bottom line: the CJ603E is a better chipper than either of those models, but with a few notable caveats and a bit of a learning curve to get the most out of it. I've been chipping branches right up to the maximum that will fit through the feeder and it hasn't complained. I've even been feeding it entire 6' trees (all at once) without a problem. The biggest upside to this thing is that it's extremely hard to jam the grinding wheel. With the Earthwise and the CJ602, I'd spend a ton of time opening the machines up to remove a jammed branch. It'd happen at least once or twice an hour, which was incredibly frustrating when trying to clear a lot of brush. I've used this thing for about 10 hours total and never once had to clear a jam. You can bind the motor up, but I've always been able to throw it in reverse and immediately get started again. In most cases, I could keep on grinding whatever caused it to stop in the first place. That said, a lot of the complaints are also correct. It won't really shred. You get coarse chips, especially with larger branches, but it's not quite as bad as pictures make it look. The grinding wheel tends to both cut and crush branches, and anything over an inch gets reduced pretty hard. You're not going to end up with mulch that's as pretty and uniform as the store-bought stuff, but it's basically what you'd get if you asked an arborist to drop a load of unscreened chips on your doorstep.Sizing may also be an issue for some people. As mentioned, you're not getting a shredder. Small twigs, leaves, etc. won't produce good results. You can put them through, but you'll get the best output if you shove a whole bunch through at once instead of feeding them individually. Bunching small twigs crushes them against each other, preventing them from slipping through the grinding wheel unharmed. I've used this strategy with thin blackberry canes and it works more or less okay for my needs. At the end of the day, this machine is great for homeowners that need to clear brush or just deal with general yard waste. I've been using it to clear almost an acre of land and it's been a champ. You aren't going to get it to eat 2" branches and there's a bit of a learning curve to chipping up small twigs, but it ultimately gets the job done reliably with decent enough results. A gas chipper will be worlds better, but the CJ603E is smaller, easier to set up, cheaper, and perfect for what it claims to do.

Just used it to shred a bush that had grown out of hands in my backyard. Don't know the name of the bush, but it's a bunch of vertical branches with long green leaves at the top. Those branches were up to 1 inch diameter, 4-5 feet long.Used the machine for about an hour, it never jammed and was able to shred the entire bush. I filled a 32 gallon garbage can with the shredded branches. When shedding branches that had a lot of leaves, I did have to stop the machine and pull on the shredded stuff that accumulated in the chute. But I wouldn't call this a jam per se, as the blade kept turning and doing its job.Noise level is ok, it's a loud hum that resembles the noise made by a large shop-vac.

Una muy buena compra, reduce mucho el volumen de las ramas y trabaja muy bien. Dos puntos a considerar, ramas muy leñosas o fibrosas atoran el funcionamiento, había que destapar por abajo. Y el ruido.

This is not your typical chipper, it uses more torque to slowly turn the chipper to break down the wood. That being said - it does a great job. Its first job was processing a very large pile of dry branches, and it powered right through them. I can’t say I really pushed it to its absolute max, I could have probably put in bigger branches, but I prefer to save those for the campfire anyways and make sure this chipper lasts longer anyways. Really comforting to have a reverse feature on this (most electric chippers don’t) in case I get a jam.The interior feeder could use some a more streamlined design as sometimes smaller sticks don’t always get fed well, but it is satisfying to put a long branch in and watch it get chewed up. If you put in a branch without twigs it usually will feed the whole thing through itself, but most of mine had little twigs so I had to help them along. Not as loud as I thought it would be, but still wore ear pro because of the long-term exposure I was going to have to it.The feeding handle feels flimsy. The provided catch bag hangs off and you have to adjust it frequently to keep it open when it’s empty, but there’s plenty of space to put a plastic bin under it if you have a spare one.For the price of this one (250) it’s good value.

Glad I bought this model rather then the smaller one! I have a small forest behind my house and I had a lot of cedar, spruce and birch branches to dispose of. While still loud, it is 14 decibels quieter than the smaller model, likely due to the different chipper mechanism. The chipper action in this model is different, as the motor spins at 60 rpm rather than 4,300 rpm. While I haven’t tested the maximum size, I regularly chipped branched up to 1.25”, and it handled them well, never overheating or throwing a breaker, even on a 100’ heavy duty outdoor cord. As others have noted, it doesn’t like any wet material and won’t shred fine 1/8” branches, leaves or needles. There is minimal prep work for the branches: straight ones with small side branches and leaves can be fed directly, while longer ones or those with sharp angles need to be cut with loppers to aid feeding. While it makes quick work of branches, the hopper underneath can quickly get jammed if you are not careful. I periodically shut off the machine and use a curved branch to clear the jam, and you are back in business. The included bag can be be suspended from the chipper, but I found it got filled quickly so did not use it after the first batch. Overall, very pleased with how efficiently it reduces a pile of branches to mulch.
