This is well built. The longer your hitch, the safer for preventing you from hitting the trailer when turning. It helps prevent you from damaging your trailer or quarter panels.

I needed an extended receiver for a small camp trailer I built because we added a tongue box that might come into contact with my bumper. Hoping this extension will give me enough room if I have to make a tight turn. The receiver seems pretty strong and has decent welds. It's 5000lbs capacity is well within my trailers 3500lb limit. It's powder coated and looks nice and comes with a 5/8 hitch pin. It fits my trucks receiver without issue and aligns with the holes and has the usual play associated with hitches of this type. I'm very satisfied with the hitch extension.

Extends 2" hitch receiver with no issues to help me clear the bumper on my Honda Odyssey for certain attachments. It's heavy. Make sure you request that it ship in Amazon box, otherwise they'll probably crack the concrete on your front steps when throwing this thing at your door.

Very bad quality, welded together crooked so your hitch would not be straight when towing, NOT SAFE to use on your vehicle, DO NOT BUY, you will be sorry !!!!!!!!

This device extends the receiver tube by eight inches or so. It essentially creates a new (extended) receiver tube, with a 2 x 2 inch opening. Around that opening is a ¾ inch reinforcing metal band, attached via welding. And that welding was – to put it mildly – sloppily done on the hitch extender I received. So sloppy done that much of the weld pool was left overhanging one of the opening’s four sides. The top side of the first pic shows this irregular and unsightly weld pool overflow. The overflow partially blocked the opening, rendering the extender useless because a trailer ball mount could not enter the receiver tube opening. (Remember, this overflow is metal.) Part of the blockage formed a curlicue, shown in close-up in pic 2. Kinda cute, but ridiculous in this context.I abhor the hassle involved in returns, so I decided to repair the hitch extender myself, fully aware that to do so would likely void all warranties, etc, etc, etc.About 5 minutes of vigorous work with a bastard file removed the offending material. See pic 3. A couple blasts of Rust-oleum enamel paint, and the piece was ready for use, although still with a rough-looking welding job. (See pic 4) The crack between the reinforcing band and the main tube, for example, should not be showing; it should be full of weld pool. That reveals the crudity of the workmanship, but something else may show in the pics that’s almost as bad: incipient rust inside the tube. It may show up in the pics as reddish pitting. And no, rust is not what you want to see on a new metal fixture, particularly one likely to be left outdoors for days or even months at a time.Should I have returned it? Probably. But then, I kinda enjoy simple tasks like this one, so no regrets, and nothing lost except the time. But seriously, not everybody has the time to lose, owns a set of files, knows how to use them, has a vise to hold the work piece securely, has a workshop in which to do the work, and is willing to undertake a cleanup task that shouldn’t have been there in the first place. For all these reasons I cannot recommend this item to others.

Tack welds on mine were fine, not like others who posted pics where they clearly already used and scuffed the hitch. These welds are to hold on a cosmetic collar not the two extension pieces together. The welds that hold the 2 pieces are solid and "look" good. This hitch is lighter material than some of my others because this is only a 5,000# EXTENDER sleeve. It's not made to haul huge trailers and loads. I think it's very appropriately valued for the quality you get for the job it's intended to do.

My new vehicle has a large spare tire on the back door, so I got this to extend my hitch mounted bike rack beyond the spare tire. It should work perfect for that. It's not nearly as heavy/thick as I expected it to be, which again for my light duty use (the bike rack) is perfect. One negative is that it does seem to rattle around in the 2" receiver hitch, necessitating the use of a clamp or other anti-rattle device. Secondly, it's not nearly has heavy duty (thick) as most of my other hitch bars, so I am not sure I'd want to tow with it (versus using it with my bike rack).
