To The Point:This heat tape is a dependable and efficient solution for preventing ice dams, though installation can be a bit tricky. My Opinion:I’ve been using the TOPDURE TDRD-F 160-foot de-icing kit for a month, and it has performed well in keeping my roof and gutters ice-free. The 5W/ft heat tape provides consistent heat and effectively melts ice in harsh winter conditions. I appreciate the 6-foot cold lead, which gives me enough flexibility to reach the power source without needing an extension cord. However, installation required patience—measuring and securing the tape properly along gutters and shingles was time-consuming, especially with the included clips, which weren’t as sturdy as I’d hoped. Once set up, though, the tape worked as promised, and I noticed a big improvement in preventing ice buildup compared to previous winters. The energy consumption also seems reasonable for the performance. My Verdict:If you're prepared for a slightly challenging installation, this heat tape is an excellent option for managing roof and gutter ice dams efficiently.I hope this helps!Cheers,Straight Shooter

Its as easy as plugging it in. Of course, your mileage may wary depending on how complicated your roof installation is going to be. But if you are just going to do it on the low lying areas, you can really make a difference even with a simple installation to make sure that you don’t have any floating shingles sharpies hanging to drop on you after they form. Heck you could even put them in the gutters and have them flowing all through winter with the warmth that this provide. That way, you may forego complicated installations. It has several applications, and it works well for a simple product. The build quality is commendable and seems like it will weather many bad weather years. Overall, an above average offering. This review is for the “TOPDURE TDRD-F 240 feet Roof & Gutter Snow De-Icing Kit, 5W/ft Heat Tape for Roof and Gutters Ice Dam Prevention with 6 ft Power Cold (240feet)”.

One of the best assurances I can offer, if choosing de-icing heat strip of this kind, is to make sure it is certified, which this TDRD-F roof and gutter kit from brand TOPDURE in fact, is. I chose the 240 ft length of heat tape, which is the longest this brand offers, and was barely enough to cover both our home and adjoining garage/barn install. The idea behind a kit like this is, in reality, a polar difference, between one scenario of a snow-laden roof and gutter, and potential damage to your home... and literally, saving that from happening. The. heating tape keeps the length of area coverage constantly warm and melting ice and snow. The end of the cord has a standard outlet plug on it to stick wherever you have one, it is overall a very simple setup, but for such a lot of coverage it obviously takes quite a long time to install, and can be a bit nerve-wracking if you don't particularly enjoy ladders and heights, hah. That said, instructions for placement was standard enough, and what this offers you and your home, is understated. 5 stars.

This has a very comprehensive installation manual, all the (shingle) attachments you might need and is electrically certified, which means it's been tested for safety before you attach it to your house. The thermal images show that at 0 degrees Celsius outside temperature, the heating wire reaches about 26 degrees, without touching anything. The heat will be dissipated to anything touching it, but will still easily melt snow and ice. One note of caution; if you want to test the wire before installing it, only plug it in for a few seconds to feel it warming up. The insulation will melt and destroy the cable if you apply power and leave the wire coiled up for any length of time. Be careful with your installation and do not let the wire cross on itself allowing it to touch. For downspouts and other areas that the wire needs to be close to itself, use the supplied separator clips to make sure the wire cannot touch itself anywhere in the installation.
