After 30plus years as a CNC machinist/programmer, I spent the last 15 years in a different field before retiring and buying a CNC router for my garage/hobby. I needed more collets and went through those listed on Amazon. If you can buy a "set" for 25 bucks, I don't even have to look at it, it will be garbage. You can't buy the steel and heat treat it for that much, yet alone do precision machining to it. Many have praised cheaper collets then I see the whole "Had it in my tail stock" line that tells me, this collet was not tested. A drill in a tail stock will, to an extent, "FIND IT"S OWN CENTER", that is, accuracy is not as much an issue on a tail stock. Now spin that collet at 16000-25000 RPM, RUN OUT IS AN ISSUE. The reason I bought this, and two more of this brand, is .0003 run out. It makes a difference. 15.00 for a collet, is a good price. Was paying more that that 30 years ago! If you wish to drill a hole with your lathe/tailstock, go ahead get the cheap one, or print one on your 3d printer. You want to make some good clean buts in some real material on a router, pay the extra. The chain is as strong as it's weakest link. Don't let the collet be the weak link in your CNC router. You've spent thousands on the machine, don't get too cheap on the tooling. On another note to also think of, on those cheaper collets, and I've seen this in a machine shop, if that bit stops spinning, and you spindle does not, your collet, bit, collet nut, spindle, can and will "weld" to each other. I think a new spindle will cost considerably more than a "good" set of collets. Purchase these with confidence.

Excellent collet. I'm not sure what the run out is because the holder it was using had .001 run out, but I was able to indicate the tool.

much higher quality and weight, and better material than the cheap ones supplied with my 2.2kw china spindle. thought it was normal to have a bit of play around the bit before locking down. nope -- other "cheap" collets are more than half the price of this so no brainer to get the better one. this is a superior product and much less likely to be damaged without said play imho.

Original collet that came with the spindle had approx. .032 runout as measured with my dial indicator. Using this collet I measured only .002, not perfect, but good enough for my cnc wood router. I felt for the price this was a good value. I may have a bit of runout in my spindle ... giving me the measured .002.
