There are several offerings of so-called water pump pliers. This Tekton stands out in finish and comfort in the hand, certainly at this price point. It is hard to believe that some $20 can get you a tool this good.In its kind I much prefer the slip joint versus tongue-in-groove because it is easier to adjust on the fly. And it's, you know, more of a purist design if that is important to you.On the 10" size you can adjust jaw spacing from 12 to 55mm, measured with the jaws lined up in parallel. This is a happy medium between smaller-size pliers and larger ones that get bulky and heavy. The jaws' hardened teeth are sharp and will likely leave marks on whatever it is you are loosening or tightening. That's the price we pay when using this type of pliers.'Very happy with these pliers. You cannot go wrong for the price.

I have about 8 of the old Craftsman ignition pliers from years of tool usage, and they are the best. These were a gift and the dude already has ordered more to keep them around [in the truck, house, toolbox - you get it]. They're the same - well made and versatile.

In the span of a few weeks, these pliers have remedied a handful of situations while performing my service job. Everything from stuck parts, loose truck mirrors, adjusting climbing devices, fastening cable ends, un-bending runaway truck brake fasteners, I never imagined a small pair of channel locks existed, but they are highly versatile and portable. I found these while shopping for a pair of Knipex Cobra water pump pliers - I can’t compare the two, but at half the cost, I’m very satisfied with my pair of Tekton 5†pliers for my portable every day carry need. After using them, my former Marine co-worker was amazed at their usefulness and happy to see the made in USA label.

I had purchased regular set of pliers from Tekton and was somewhat disappointed in them. However, that set included an 8" slip joint plier that was excellent. I decided that this set of slip joint pliers was a "safe" purchase and that turned out to be a correct assessment. These pliers are excellent quality, very well made with excellent fit and finish. Functionally they work great. I rated them a 4 instead of 5 stars as the price point is a little on the high side compared Crescent or Irwin brands (non-locking Irwin). On a positive note, Tekton does warrant their tools. Rather they "Always Guarantee" them, regardless if you purchased the tool from them. Amazon. second hand, etc. Just take a picture of the broken tool and send it to them, and they will replace it. Of course the picture has to show the engrave part number on the tool which all the tools have.

Great little pliers! Husband always keeps these in his pocket and he wasn't able to find the brand he's always bought. We ordered these for him to try and he loves them! We immediately ordered another pair for a spare.

Made is USA! I just received these and compared them to my old 1970’s Ignition Pliers and I have to say I am impressed! They actually forge/cast thicker metal beginning just before the handle to add strength to the tool! I can tell the difference with less flexing of the tool! Feel great in my hand and allow one handed opening which is crucial for me. Before I purchased the Tekton, I had purchased the Crescent that uses a tongue and Grove action to allow wider jaw opening. The Crescent was too loose and flimsy to use one handed opening and Wrench was off balanced and poorly made compared to the Tekton. Also was 1/2†smaller and pinched my fingers while closing. Both Irwin and Channellock use the tongue and groove action in their ignition wrenches so I didn’t bother trying either before finding this one and ordering. Irwin and Channellock make some great tools that I own but as far as a 5’ mini wrench, Tekton is the clear winner!
