How to inatall Electric Engine Cooling Fan Clutch?

1. Remove the bolts and push pins that attach the intake air baffle to the radiator support, then remove the baffle. (On 2002s only)

2. Disconnect the transmission cooler lines at the engine bracket and fan shroud.

3. Disconnect the electro-viscous clutch electrical connector from the shroud.

4. Remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator; be prepared for coolant spillage.

5. Remove the fan clutch hub from the water pump by turning it counterclockwise.

6. Unclip the shroud from the radiator side panels then tilt the condenser and radiator forward. This will be easier if someone assists you.

7. Remove the fan and shroud as one unit by lifting straight up as the condenser and radiator are being held in the forward position.

8. The fan can now be unbolted from the clutch, if necessary. Be sure to tighten the fan-to-clutch bolts to the torque listed in this chapter's specifications(20 Ft.-lb.)

9. Installation is reverse removal, Tighten the fan hub nut to the torque listed in this chapter's specifications(41 FT.-Lbs)!

10. Check the coolant level, adding as necessary to bring it to the appropriate level.

I purchased this in 2022. It immediately started the loud clicking noise that's common with these replacement fan clutches on GM vehicles. That's been happening for a year or more, and now the part is failing. It's making loud noises as if the bearing is going out or something. Doesn't cool the car unless it's revving or moving. It boils down to the same old thing. You get what you pay for. Unfortunately often times we have no choice but to buy the cheap stuff and deal with the aftermath. Seems to be the story of my life any way. So now I'm searching for a new one. $175 for an OEM part I really can't afford, or $64 for a cheap Chinese product that may or may not work or work for very long. It's a crappy choice to have to make. Such is life.

On a 2008 Trailblazer, I kept getting a code for "fan at high speed", P0495. Took about an hour to replace and fit perfectly. Now the truck is quieter and the code has not come back. The hardest part is getting the nut on the water pump loose. I bought a 36mm open end wrench for this and hit it with a 2lb hammer repeatedly until it loosened. I started to doubt that is was going to work but it does. This was my cheapest alternative but I would suggest getting the easiest way you can afford.

It was reasonable and worked. The only thing now is finding out how long it lasts. In the short term, all is well.
