Bought this to connect to my Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV520 as a replacement for the cable that came with the camera that cannot be located. Despite the description, this does not work. The original OEM cable would be recognized and could transfer 8mm digital and (from older pre-digital cameras) analog videos. This cable does nothing. The advantage of a working cable is that the transfer would be done digitally, maintaining the quality. Without a cable, I'm forced to convert the tapes to digital by capturing the playback of the videos through the s-video or composite camera output.

The USB is not compatable as a 1394 on dv camera.

Just a word of caution, firewire-to-USB is not for video. Video capture to PC requires constant stream. You can google that info if you wish. I just want to save you some aggravation if you are getting this as a magic workaround for not having a firewire port. It's good for date, but not for video capture from a camera or other playing device. It's great for all other purposes.
