About this item

  • Enhanced Thermal Conductivity: GIRtech USM fire bricks offer improved thermal conductivity compared to traditional chamotte products. Experience superior heat transfer and distribution, maximizing the efficiency of your heating units.
  • High Refractoriness and Versatile Use: With a refractoriness of 2760 degrees Fahrenheit (insert temperature range), these fire bricks are suitable for various domestic heating units. Perfect for brick fireplaces, steel furnaces, heating stoves, barbecues, barbecue complexes, ceramics kilns, and blacksmith forges.
  • Hearth Arrangement and Furnace Lining: Utilize these fire bricks for both arranging the hearth of the furnace and lining the inner surface. Ensure optimal insulation and protection for your heating unit, extending its lifespan and improving performance.
  • Use with Fireclay/Alumina Mortar: Refractory masonry requires a fireclay/alumina mortar, such as GIRtech CONTACT-40 or GIRtech CONTACT Drymix. Prior to installation, moisten the contact surface with water. Avoid using cement mixes as a masonry mortar.
  • Cuttable and Processable: GIRtech USM fire brick can be easily cut or processed with a special tool, allowing for customization and precise fitting as needed.

INSTRUCTION

GIRtech USM is a special heavy duty thin firebrick which are used for masonry and lining of any household heating units, fireplaces cladding, mini-forges, as well as for household buildings. Maximum operating temperature is no more than 2760 ° F. Refractory masonry must be done on a fireclay/alumina mortar, for example GIRtech CONTACT-40. Before performing work, it is necessary to moisten the contact surface with some water. It is possible to use a cement mortar only for masonry of non-thermal household units, without subsequent ignition. GIRtech USM could be cuted or processed with a special tool if necessary. It is made from natural components and safe for human health. This product is not intended for use in industrial units where contact between the refractory lining and molten metals is possible. Appearance, sizes: hearth plates 9.0*4.5*1.25 inches Composition: fireclay, quarz sand Net Weight, lb 3.97 Minimum refractoriness: 2 760 °F Interconnected porosity, % 18.5 Apparent specific graviry, ln/in3 69 - 72 Compressive strenghth, psi 2 700 - 3 300 Thermal expansion coefficient (2 372 °F): 0% Thermal resistance, thermal cycles (32°F to 1700°F) 40 .

I am starting my first smith shop and these were amazing for the price, with high quality, and perfect size. They take the heat and worked great. I dropped one and it did hardly any damage and looked the same as if I had not dropped it mostly.

Good quality fire brick; I cent the down with a wet saw so they would fit in my furnace. They are holding up to the heat and give my crucible a good solid spot to sit. Unfortunately I found a box of 6 at Menards for like $18; I guess I should have looked around locally a little more.

Nice heavy brick to retain heat. I replaced all the bricks in my blazeking woodstove and these are about twice as heavy as the original ones. The bricks arrived on time and were packaged good enough that none of them were broken, kinda surprised as I live in interior alaska and you never know how it's going to with shipping up here.

I use these for my home foundry for under the crucible in which I melt metal for casting. I cut each brick in half to make square sections. These are durable enough in my foundry (melting things with temps up to melting brass and copper (Around 1100 degrees celsius) that I have gone through two squares since I purchased these well over a year ago.

I bought these bricks to replace what was suppose to be kiln dry fire brick that only last 1 season without starting to deteriorate. The bricks are very solid and and very well made at a very good price. I bought a case at a lower cost for better bricks than i paid to a local fireplace dealer for what they called kiln dried bricks

Good value and awesome product. Instructions were unclear though. It is clearly a fire brick but the flame did not come in the package. I made every attempt to fire this brick I could to the point of even forcing it to watch highlights from the apprentice. Nothing seemed to work. They attempted many times to send me a flame but by the time it reached me it was extinguished and only charred evidence was left. Was not their fault and top notch customer service rarely seen these days.

Bought these to replace a broken firebrick on the bottom of my forge, and to add additional for sliding doors on the front. Most of the hardware store bricks will only do up to 2200F, which isn't high enough. They'll crack and break within one or two firings. These bricks so far have held up to forge welding temps (no actual forge welding yet, so no word on how flux treats them). They extremely durable too. One out of the five came with a hairline crack in it, and even with it falling onto the ground from about 3ft up, it wasn't even phased and is still unbroken (it's one of the doors right now). All in all, these bricks are strong, hold up to the heat, and are priced equally to the hardware store bricks that don't meet the same temps. Worth every penny. Only shame is that my first order of them went missing after customs, so this is technically the second batch. Seller refunded the first order quickly though, so everything has been great on this end.

I find these bricks insulate the heat on the sidewalls of my fireplace. Not allowing heat to radiate out. Good for the bottom bricks but would not recommend for side bricks. Pushes to much heat up the chimney.

Good heavy firebrick.Heavier than those I removed from an Alderlea woodstove. They are 1/16" or so wider and taller than 9 x 4 inches.... be prepared to trim them if this matters to your woodstove.

4 bricks were broken out of 10. Returned one pack. It would be OK if I had to replace horizontal bricks, but I need to replace vertical. Bad packing and/or handling. Otherwise I liked the product.
