My Vaughn 28 oz rigging ax requires a new handle from time to time and I usually swing by HD, but they no longer carry it... so I tried Amazon and happily they have it. A good deal and delivered to my door.I'm old school and love a wooden handle.

Got what I expected with a couple small issues. I hoped for a straighter grain in the end, but more importantly the grain from knob to shoulder is nearly perfect. A small amount of heartwood on one side, but it's debatable whether that will actually matter. Fitted to a 100 year old Germantown carpenters axe head, I feel confident that it will be a very good match.

Good straight grain hickory pre-shaped very closely to the eye of an old half hatchet I inherited. A few strokes with a rasp and it was ready to go. The included wedges were a nice touch. The wooden wedge was straight grained and hard enough to go in tightly without splitting. The 2 cross wedges ensure that handle will be tight for many years.My only complaint is that the handle is considerably longer than the original. 4 inches shorter would have been perfect.
