This unit was a replacement for a smaller Wen model, my starter drill press. This larger more powerful and heavier duty model is great and at a good price point. The depth of the plunge 2" which works for me. I enjoy the plunge stop which is quite sturdy. There is a built in work light and a laser centering beam that are very helpful. I couldn't be happier. This is just what my woodworking shop needed.

I'm a retired Tool Maker. I purchased this drill press because my lovely Delta DP350's variable speed transmission failed and Delta stopped offering spare parts for it, I had to Scrap it out. ouch! So, I carefully reviewed all the available Drill Press offerings. This Wen 4212 has the best feature set and the best price, my worry was that it's made in China. I called Wen ( who actually answered the Phone which gave me confidence that they support their products ).The Press was shipped to me, it arrived very quickly, assembled quickly and worked beautifully. I'm pleased.I use this Press on every project, I use it every day, it's as smooth as butter in operation. I'm accustomed to a Big Clausing Industrial drill press and Bridgeport Milling machines so I have experience in these things.Con: No spindle lock. I'm adjusting to this missing element and may perform "surgery" to the Press to include this important feature.Pro: It's actually better than I can use. It has 5/8" Chucking ( I need only 1/2" ) I'd thought that I'd replace the Key'd chuck with a keyless except the supplied chuck is better than any key'd chuck I've ever encountered ( I'm loving the supplied chuck ). The Lasers are wonderful ( I've never had that feature on a Machine and thought it would be "training wheels" but it turned out to be invaluable. ( I love it ). The Variable speed is superb. I replaced the supplied Light bulb with a 80 Watt equivalent LED bulb to great result. This is an ideal woodworker's drill press, it's probably not an Industrial Steel workhorse press, it has sufficient power for my largest Forstner Bit ( 2 1/4" ).I own a WEN 4 X 36 Bench Sander which is also superb.I'm considering other WEN products! , they seem to be presenting the best "Value for Money"

First off, I am not a 5 star rate-r. The fifth star, for me, relates to product manufacturer customer service. Since Amazon is the customer service front end it would be silly to rate it 5 star. The drill press, when received, was well packaged and free from exterior damage. The interior packaging was well done with a Styrofoam clam-shell that protected each of the components from drop-age as well as separating each of the assemblies. The press assembled in about 15 minutes and and additional 10 minutes of adjustment. The instructions were clear and in english but really I only referred to the instruction to verify chuck install. Before I assembled I did clean the smoo off of the column, table, and base. The head unit only weighs about 35lbs so setting it atop the column wasn't to difficult.Once I had the head unit installed I then did a good job of cleaning the quill, taper and chuck. It is imperative to do an excellent job of cleaning the this assembly to get a tight(safe) fit that has minimal run-out.The first thing I did to determine if the motor had enough power was to load a 1-5/8" Forsner bit and drill some 5/4" oak... it stalled on the first three but did better the more holes I drilled. I attribute that to "wearing in the belt and pulley". I have had no more issues with stalling.Overall quality of the tool is exceptional considering it was only $250.00, $20.00 less than Hazard Fraught. All accessory lights run through the main switch(no batteries). Lasers are a crutch and should not be relied on for accuracy. The work light is nice. The digital readout out is for general reference at best but it is nice as well as helpful. The adjustable speed is the ticket, I love it. My prior drill press needed belt changes so I ran it at 900rpm and dealt with it. Now, I can slow it down for steel with a flip of the lever.WHAT THIS PRESS IS NOT: This is not a $2000.00 Powermatic press, $300 Micro-Mark Micro press, or a $3500 Dayton Mill Press. This is not an industrial press (they don't claim it is)WHAT THIS PRESS IS: An exceptional value hobby or light production drill press. If this drill press is in your Garage shop it will do very well for you.

A solid piece of equipment, as its weight predicts. Parts fit together as expected, took less than half an hour before it was ready to use. Should have bought this a long time ago. Very satisfied.

I bought this drill spring 2016 and love it. This is the fourth drill press I have owned over many years and by far the most functional for my needs. My main usage is drilling various metal profiles and thickness for my home workshop retirement projects. Having had a construction business for many years and building much of my own equipment I am fairly well acquainted with operating a range of tools. This drill has ample power-run out is minimal-the variable speed control is to die for when drilling pilot holes for larger bits. So far with a fair bit of usage the original belt is still in fine shape. I replaced the original light bulb with a small LED spotlight bulb which was a big improvement. Due to height restrictions I cut 4in off the stem-no other modifications required. However the drill does have a couple of weak points. If you mount it with 2 bolts as per instructions it will wobble all over. As with my previous drills I use a threaded rod thru the bench and base and double nut at each juncture. It still wobbled excessively from front to back. The base flexes and allows the heavy drill head to wobble. If you hold your hand at the rear of the base and wobble the drill you can feel it move up and down. All I did was drill 2-3/8 bolts thru a piece of 1in square tubing on top of the rear of the base then thru the base and bench. This steadied it to the point of being acceptable for me. Plan B was to build a new more rigid base. The other issue is the table has a slight dish in line with the roller extension. What is odd is the table is dead flat front to back! This is not a big issue for me except as I have squared the full width of the table with the bit if I need to drill a true hole near the end of a thicker piece of stock I have to adjust accordingly. One thing many people questioned was why the RPM digital readout stayed on all the time. Puzzles me to. All I did was change out the standard receptacle with a switched receptacle and problem solved. Nothing is perfect but with a couple of minor tweaks I feel that for an excellent price I have a fine working durable product that I would highly recommend.

Works OK and the variable speed feature is a lot more convenient than having to change a belt setting. The laser sight and built-in LED worklight are also pretty handy to have. I'm not trying to bore through thick steel plate, but it has enough power for any task I've given it.The assembly instructions are a bit goofy. (They start OK by listing the assembly steps in order, but then mix in some maintenance steps like telling you to remove the chuck right after you've installed it!) Another strange thing is that the digital RPM meter is powered up whenever the drill is plugged in. Even if it's switched off! Wastes 4 watts of power 24/7 unless you use a power bar or rewire the Drill Press. Table angle is adjustable but it's not an easy thing to do.But, these are minor quibbles. It's a pretty solid device with a lot of features for the money.

I waited months for this model to come on sale and it was worth the wait. Came well packed and was easy to assemble. Love the LED light and laser as they don't run on batteries like my old drill press did, very bright and easy to see where you are drilling. I did upgrade to the keyless chuck and am glad I did as it just make bit changes so much easier and more secure. I don't have the advertised top speed but I am going to let the belt wear in a bit before getting to excited about it. The variable speed control is easy to use and I found this to be much quieter then others had reported so don't believe every review out there. I do recommend this drill press and it looks great in the shop with its bold orange /black color scheme. Best purchase I have made on Amazon so far to date.
