I bought these to replace a loud annoying electric grinder. These are quiet and not annoying. They grind smoothly and are easy to use. They seem like they will last awhile. I recommend them.

These grinders work well and are so pretty. They really add a beautiful yet simple, natural touch to my dinner table. I've been trying to incorporate warmer, natural materials into my home's decor, so these go perfectly with that goal. As you can see by the photos, one is in a lighter, natural wood color, and the other stained a medium wood color, which makes it easy to tell at a glance which grinder holds salt and which holds pepper. The wood is sanded smooth and feels nice in my hands. These grinders work in the same way as most other grinders of this basic design. The "grinder cores" (blades?) are sharp which makes it easy to turn the mill top to grind your salt or pepper. The grinders are also easy to fill.One thing I really like is that the "grinder cores" (blades?) are ceramic. It's not such an issue for pepper, but salt will corrode stainless steel blades, so for a salt grinder it is important that the blades are made of ceramic, which salt will not affect, so they will stay sharp and not become corroded. Note in my photo the bottom pieces of the grinders are white -- these are the ceramic pieces I am referring to. If they were stainless steel, they would obviously be silver metal.I have to admit I never knew the way to adjust how fine or coarse the salt or pepper comes out, is to either tighten the little top metal screw piece less for a coarser grind, or screw it in place more tightly for a finer grind. Not yet knowing this, I tightened the screw on top quite firmly and got a nice fine grind. Once I found out that I could loosen the top screw a bit for a coarser grind, I tried that but the grind was the same, it was still a fine grind. I found a quick YouTube video explaining how this mechanism works, and it explained that tiny pieces of crushed peppercorn might be stuck in between the blade pieces. Sure enough, this is what had happened, which made loosening the screw have no effect on the size of the grind. I dumped all the peppercorns into a little bowl, making sure to brush away all the little stuck pieces. I put the peppercorns back in the grinder and now the fine/coarse adjustment works as it is designed to.Overall, these are classic salt and pepper grinders. I am very pleased with how simple yet beautiful they are, how easy they are to fill and use, and am happy with the fine/coarse adjustment now that I understand how it works.

This is a cute set of wooden grinders. They are as advertised solid wood case, with a ceramic grinder, good size and work well. They are not fancy and you could probably find nicer ones out there. But, for the price and for two that are made of wood, this size, with a ceramic grinder and no plastic, this is a really good value. The knob on top that you turn to adjust the coarseness does work, but I've found that it doesn't hold it's setting for the most fine grind and unturns a bit each time, so that I can't get that ultra-fine grind I sometimes want on a final plated meal. Overall, though, this is a good set and a good value.
