Bought to upgrade Apollo 110cc pit bike. The cylinder and head were both too short so when I got it together the chain had lots of slack. The camshaft sprocket is also smaller. I bored my original cylinder to fit the upgraded piston and that seems to fit real nice and sounds more solid trying to crank, however not firing up anymore. Compression test shows about 35psi so I’m guessing the broken gasket that it came with this kit is a problem. I’ll have to get another gasket kit and maybe rtv and see if I can get compression.

For starter I did not actually intend on buying a big bore kit. I was looking for a head for my son’s quad and looked up the stamped number. These popped up and looked correct. Wasn’t until I tried to install a piston that I realized that wasn’t gonna work now. So I ordered this off the same link I got the head from. Everything was going together as smoothly as engines can go together until I started trying to put on the head nuts. I figured maybe I had stripped some threads or something but got what I could get put together and moved on. When it came down to timing it I couldn’t get the cam gear to come up far enough so I removed the tensioner and (not understanding yet why) still couldn’t get it. So I tore the crank side down to wear I could see the belt and realized the tensioner was not stuck like I thought it was somehow. The chain is too short. At that point I picked up the old components and compared. These are longer overall than the old components. I wouldn’t find the idea of buying a new longer chain to accommodate this but my issue is the head studs not being long enough. This is really frustrating because I was very excited about putting on a big bore kit once I realized it was one. At this point I’m considering just buying a new motor and cutting my loses.
