I bought this to save some money but ended up costing me more than if I bought the one from VW. The tubes coming from the heater core where shorter than the original one and plus it did not come with the O-rings. I was already to far in the repair to return it. High recommend spending the extra money and getting one from the dealer.

Heater core seems to fit but I can't finish the job because they sent no O Rings with the heater core. A little frustrating.

I bought this thinking I could save some money. The opposite happened. I installed this heater core and spent a week trying to get it to fit on the inlet/outlet pipes. I ended up buying all new parts directly from Volkswagen. I was able to install all parts on my first try. Install pipe clamps on each side of the connection and you can use pliers to close the connection. Avoid using pliers on the aluminum pipe directly. I recommend using some silicon lubricant on the inside of the inlet/outlet pipes before connecting the Heater Core.Parts list received from VW Parts: (Under $100)(1) 561-819-031-C , Heater Core(1) 561-898-380 , Heater Core Gasket (this is required for a heater core replacement, DO NOT use the old one)(1) 1K0-122-291-C , Outlet Hose Coupling (The old one will likely break during removal, do not get the replacement part from Autozone, there part is made from China and doesn’t have the proper gasket mounted in the part)Be sure to flush out the coolant circuit with radiator cleaner since it will likely have rust in the circuit. Don’t want the new get core to get plugged up.

The o-ring grooves are not manufactured to the same tolerance as a factory heater core. When you install new o-rings and try to assemble the heater core tube into the mating part the o-ring rolls and push out of the grooves. Factory parts have square grooves. Off brand parts have rolled round grooves. This was a waste of money. Only buy OEM factory parts. This part is not compatible for any Volkswagen Beetle or Passat.

Unit arrived well boxed and intact. Looked similar to OEM upon visual inspection. Installation was essentially slip and slide, but this unit was much more difficult to fully insert. Connection of the aluminum piping was difficult due to this unit's inlet pipe being slightly off angle. Also the outlet pipe would not seat properly resulting in a leak. Re-checked o-rings for binding or pinching, but suspect piping misalignment was the likely culprit. Removed, adjusted piping, exchanged o-rings and re-installed; however, outlet pipe continued to seep. Will replace with a VW unit.

The part looks similar to the one I removed from my 2012 VW Passat but this one was slightly bigger and did not fit into the slot. I also noticed that that tubes did not align the same way when I compared them to the original one I removed, so I suspect that this is not the correct part. I returned it and will purchase an OEM to be sure I get the right part for my car.

Just like others stated it won't work because of the oring grooves being too loose. DO NOT BUY!

The heater core looks the same as the genuine but IT IS different somehow as it leaked on my 2012 VW passat tdi.It didn't come with the o-rings, so I used the old ones which seemed a bit bigger then the pipe (1st indication that it's not the same) it leaked. I removed the whole thing and used another o-ring which should have fit, but it still leaked (second indication that it's not the same).I ended up cleaning my old one with water and detergent and put it back which solved my problem.

Fitment was a real wrestling match - and it was hard to get the gasket to engage properly resulting in a slight coolant leak. I will have to take it off and try to maybe saw the ends and just use heater hose and clamps.

Dont bother it is not made for what the page recommended. It is also made very cheap and the joints break easily
