Not sure what's up with some reviews. People complaining about the glass breaking; what do you expect? if you drop it it'll break. It's glass. :)I love the build quality and seems like a very durable product,

I have a few Cole and Mason grinders. They are the absolute Best!!Was in Sicily and brought home course Sea Salt, this grinder did the job! A relative had regular everyday grinder and it wouldn’t do the job.

The grinding burr seems to be ceramic, which is the right choice for salt. Metal would quickly corrode. The container to hold the salt is glass. That's also good.Otherwise, it is very disappointing.1. The top of the grinder is badly scratched from the packaging. It rubs against its packaging and gets badly scratched up. This can't be removed. Half the reason to buy the grinder is the design, but arriving scratched up out of the box defeats the purpose. It looks like it's been carelessly used for a few years even when new.2. It comes with some kind of salt in it, but there is no information about what that is. Why would I consume a food product with no information about the contents? Is it iodized salt? Is it sea salt from a region with known pollution issues? Where can I find a certificate of analysis online to understand what's in it. Some salt is high in lead, some salt is even high in cadmium or uranium (not uncommon) or other toxic metals. Where's the data on this?3. The mystery salt is sealed into the glass container with glued-on foil. Removing the foil is not easy. It doesn't peel away cleanly in one piece. I ended up getting little pieces of foil down in the salt because the foil just shreds in your hands. If you're not keeping a close eye on it, you could end up grinding foil and eating it.4. Removing the foil leaves a heavy, gummy glue all around the edge of the glass, and this does not wash off with water. I had to use Goo Gone to dissolve the thick sticky glue and then a lot of soap to be sure the Goo Gone was cleaned off. It's highly annoying and unnecessary.5. 95% of the grinder top is very cheap looking plastic and very thin mystery metal. The metal is a bit thicker than a sheet of aluminum foil, but not by much. It looks like the kind of fake stainless steel that will start to develop rust spots in a month or two. The plastic has the greasy/shiny appearance of the very cheap plastic used Cracker Jack toy prizes. It does not look like nylon reinforced plastic which is durable.6. There is a metal spring in the grinding mechanism. There is no information regarding what this spring is made of, but if it isn't a good quality stainless then it will rust out just from the salt and natural moisture in the air.7. Salt clings to the cheap plastic in the grinder lid. It remains constantly messy. A good quality grinder would use glass in order to prevent all the static clinging. This is the kind of unnecessary annoyance that become irritating over time and is completely avoidable by good design.Overall it's about as cheaply made as you will find in a grinder with ceramic burrs. It functions no better than the built-in grinder you get with the little plastic grocery store rock salt containers in the spice aisle. The advantage is that you can more easily refill it, and it looks a little nicer if you squint your eyes from a distance.

I have twisted the adjustment knob to coarse ground salt but the grind never gets to what I would call coarse, so I have fine ground salt in various degrees of fineness. I guess I will use Kosher salt straight from the box for coarse salt and this on the table for individual seasoning. I am disappointed in Cole & Mason, their products are usually good.

This is a nice, yet simple, looking salt mill that comes with it’s own sea salt. I replaced the one it came with our Celtic sea salt (as this is the purpose of our purchasing this mill). I found this mill to be super easy to use. I loved the design of it, too. The tension was a little off, but I was able to correct some. Overall, good find for a decent price: 4.5/5 stars.

Sor far I really like this grinder. The grind is even, and the size is perfect. It holds a lot of pepper. It has become my kitchen grinder of choice. Since I use a lot of pepper in cooking it's nice to not have to refill nearly as often as many taller/thin bottom grinding models. It's also way easier to refill and doesn't spill grinds all over counter after use. I use it for pepper.
