The Polder 12453 Stainless Steel Dual Oven Thermometer is a wonderful tool for the indoor and outdoor cook. It is accurate, study, and easy to read. The price cannot be beat, and it is highly rated by many cooking sources, including America's Test Kitchen. I do quite a lot of grilling and barbequing and have found this to be a great tool to measure both the grill and smoker temperature, and to gauge when the meat is done. My wife, who does much of the indoor cooking, has found this to be an effective and efficient tool. We recommend it highly.

Appears to be well made and pretty accurate. Its nice to be able to measure both oven and meat temperature with the same thermometer. The insulated grip is a nice touch but I would suggest that you still use an oven mitt or pot holders if you are going to remove it directly from a hot oven.

Pros: Good for slow-roasting meat in the oven or on the grill. Good for keeping tabs on grill temp. It seems accurate when temping meat.Cons: Unless cooking a roast, you can't use both thermometers at the same time. The oven temp section doesn't work if you want to stick the thermometer in the grill vent. You can't temp meat if you've been using it to keep track of grill/oven temp. Doesn't work well as a general purpose thermometer e.g. when warming egg whites to pasteurize them, I couldn't get an accurate reading from it.While it had good potential for use in my kitchen and works for the most part, I wouldn't get it again and would instead go with a dedicated food thermometer and a dedicated grill thermometer

Thermometer was much larger than expected. Good qualify, meat probe was within 5 degrees of digital probe and external within 10 degrees of oven thermometer on a pork roast so it seems dialed in. Silicone cover around be thermometer seems excessive but can prevent from getting banged up I suppose. So far a good deal.

I bought this on a recommendation from Cook's Illustrated as a low cost, but accurate thermometer. The glass on this thermometer broke on it's first use, which was my Thanksgiving Turkey as I put it in the oven. I didn't see any pieces of glass, so I figured I'd leave it in. It read that the temperature was 160 in the Turkey breast couple of hours later and I took the Turkey out to check and it was no where near done. I put the Turkey back in for a while. A little later the thermometer was reading the breast as 190 degrees. I tried putting the thermometer in a few different places and got a wide range of temperatures. I did my best to guess when the Turkey was done, but I think the Turkey could have turned out better had the thermometer been accurate. I checked with Amazon's website and they say it's beyond the return policy since I bought it back in September. I'd like to exchange it and try another one and see if maybe I got a bad one or if it's just a bad product.

I just bought a second one of these so I have one in the kitchen and one by the grill. The probe temperature is very accurate and responsive. The oven temperature lags but is accurate once it comes up. The guide to cooking temperatures printed on the face is a helpful reference, although I find 160 for steaks comes out to more than medium. I now take them off the grill at 150 which produces a center that is still a little pink. Fully cooking meat should not be left to guesswork. I recommend you use a meat thermometer and this one is a good choice. This is actually my third unit. The first one I left in a too-hot grill with the lid closed and the glass cracked. I called Polder and they put a new one in the mail right away, no charge and no questions asked. Great people to work with.

This thing is HUGE! I bought for monitoring meat temperatures while roasting Prime Rib in a Ronco Rotisserie. Regardless of what Ron Popeil says, you can’t “Set It And Forget IT†if you want your roasts to come out perfectly cooked. I bought this one and another Polder sensor that monitors just the meat temperature hopefully finding one that would work. The first think I noticed is that the meat temperature range on this thermometer goes from 120 to 200 degrees. I remove the prime rib roast from the rotisserie or oven when the internal temperature reaches 120, let it rest until the internal temperature reaches 130 degrees and then carve and serve. So basically, this thermometer is basically useless for roasting prime rib or standing rib roasts. I’ll have to use it for those times I rotisserie/oven cook pork roasts or regular beef roasts. It isn’t adjustable and I have had several meat thermometers which were way off. I’ve learned never to test a meat thermometer until I have verified it’s accuracy. As the highest temp on this thermometer is 200, I can’t even do a boiled water test, as water boils at 212. I did test the oven temperature dial by putting it in a 375 oven. It measured 375. I put it in a second 350 oven. It measured 350 exactly! So we know the oven temperature dial is accurate. So, all in all this seems like an accurate thermometer. I give it 4 stars. I took one star off because the temperature range is too high. Who cooks anything to 200 degrees? A better range would have been 100 degrees to 180 degrees!

This is quite a bit larger then what we thought but seems to work fine. Smaller meats you may want to use a thermometer that gives you an immediate temperature as this one is designed to leave in the meat and is slower to react to temps.

Perfetto per cotture al forno, perché si può lasciare infilzato (nel mio caso nella carne), così da poter vedere la temperatura del cibo in cottura, anche senza aprire il forno, evitando sbalzi di temperatura.Consigliato!

The thermostat on my oven is not the most reliable so I have been using metal meat thermometers bought locally for about £6-£8 which last a few months before they break or become unreadable. They are not that accurate either. This thermostat is leagues above them. I have now used it half a dozen times and my joints have been cooked perfectly. For the first time ever, I managed to get my beef joint cooked perfectly to medium rare and the Christmas turkey was not over cooked. The oven temperatur guage is a bonus as it appears my oven is not getting as hot as it should so I can adjust the temperature now without guessing. The temperatures for each kind of meat are written on the front so you don't have to look it up each time.It is easy to read and stays pretty clean somehow. What little splatters do get on it, wipe off easily as it is covered in silicone. Very pleased with it.

It's size and weight, will make it very good for large pieces of meat, but not so easy to use on things like chicken thighs, breast, chops etc. which is what I mostly cook. So I'll stick with my little instant read for those things.I do love the fact that it's dishwasher safe, very sturdy, etc. I think it will last forever. I love the thought of the dual read, especially when it comes to bbq. As it's hard to have an accurate tempature read in there.I like the black grip, but not for the reason why it was there although it does make it easy. I think it will act as a shield so the thermometer will look nicer for a long time. It also acts as a bumper in the cutlery drawer!I didn't give it five stars for accuracy, as I have no way of knowing if it is or not. But it is very well made and I have no reason to question it.Now I need to save my pennies and get a Wi-Fi thermometer that can fit inside a sous vide bag! But this will have a very useful life in my kitchen for many decades to come, I'm sure of it.
