Working on a rusted out project race car. The control arm joints would not budge. From unboxing the tool to job done in 2 mins. Just put it on the control arm snug with a my hand and hit it with the impact for about 5 secs, the arm exploded upward I would have never gotten it out via hammer/heat.Save yourself the headache and sore arms from hammering. Just buy this!

It made the process so much quicker than other methods without one, as time is money. You may need to use a sledge to tap/wedge it under the rubber boot to get the lower claw under the ball joint bolt. However, one issue with the design is that it pushes against the ball joint bolt’s thread on the bottom for leverage. My particular ball joint bolt had a hollow center, and thus was not as strong, and the tool damaged the thread. Therefore, you may want to examine your bolt, as this is a real risk.I was able to get around this on one side- there is a hex in the middle of the bolt, and I still managed to get the nut on with a box wrench and hex tool. Otherwise, the ball joint gets stuck on the thread and just spins. I’m not sure if there’s a way to protect the thread, but something to be careful with, as the other side was more damaged and resulted in me needing to replace the entire ball joint, which was $50, and extremely difficult and time consuming. Not sure the solution here- I don’t think you can put the nut on and have enough space with the tool…

I had been fighting a 2014 Mirage ball joint for a combined six hours. Heat, hammers, breaker bars; nothing helped.I put this bad boy on and only had to hand tighten the tool before the ball joint popped out. 5/5 10/10.Perfect.

Constructed well and works good… for smaller format joints like tie rod ends and sway bar links and such.Large format ball joints like lower control arms and such…. There are better tools than this that will make the job easy.

Purchased very inexpensively during a price dip (twenty something bucks). Excellent value for the money, and would not do the job again without it. I have used this several times on the tie rod of a BMW E46 330xi, which was otherwise extremely difficult to separate from the control arm. Use as described by others (grease up well, load up the joint, hit the arm with a hammer to shock joint loose). Without this tool you end up damaging the hex at the top of the threads and/or the threads themselves and/or the nut of the ball joint making re-use and future separations even more difficult. I will never do this work again without this kind of tool, unless I expect to use a pickle fork (and/or BFH) and throw away the ball joint afterwards. If purchasing again, I would get a 5-in-1 set set instead for double the price, mainly to get this tool and an Outer Tie Rod Remover (such as Gearwrench 3533, or OTC 7503, or Performance Tool W83021, etc.). Kit is GearWrench 41690, or comparable: Performance Tool W89303, or OTC 6295 Front End Service Set, etc.
