I had purchased a couple of cheese slicers in the past that use the replaceable wire. They work well until the wire eventually breaks. Once you replace the wire, the life of the second, then third, etc. seems to get much shorter with each replacement. So far, this heavier-duty option seems to be a much better product. The stronger blade does a nice job with the harder cheeses, but can get a bit messy with softer varieties. Cleaning is easier though, as the blade - since it has a bit of heft - can be wiped clean easier, in my opinion.I think the key is to cut slowly and apply a bit of pressure on the blade with a finger (top side) to give it a bit of support. I like this style as I think it helps lower the pressure on each of the two ends that hold the blade in place. I think I learned this from the wire product, and I am not sure if it really needed with this. It is more of a peace-of-mind kind of thing!Anyway, good product with a much better design for longer life.

I would be worried to try to use it on carrots zucchini or anything hard. It shows that you can. I don't think it's heavy enough for that. I bought it for cheese and it works well for that. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Fairly fast. Blade is not that sharp I was really surprised. It is worth the money.

This does the job fairly well. It is simple to use and quite sharp. It is more expensive than a handheld wire slicer but it is much more effective. The only complaint I have thus far is that it doesn't align perfectly and the blade can catch inside the slot on the platform. This is simple enough to avoid once you are watching for it.Otherwise, it cuts quite well. If I have any reliability issues I will update the review.

I've used the wire cutting kind for decades and I really like them. But I dislike having to replace the wire every so often. The handle on mine no longer tightened the wire cutter enough to hold it taut. So I ordered this one thinking it might last. While the slicer is thin stainless steel it is pretty durable. But the blade was so thick I could not get thin slices of anything. So I actually removed the blade and painstakingly honed the edge down to what it should have been in the first place. It now slices cheese 2 mm thick and thicker if I want. I haven't tried it on anything else even though it's sharp now that honed the blade. For me it's a cheese slicer and that's all it will be used for. Now that I fixed it it works like it should and I'll hang on to it. Sorry, I could not get a good image of the newly reshaped and resharpened blade. You can kinda see it here. Wish I took before and after pics. Anyway, unless I got a defective one-off bad blade I would not recommend this slicer mainly because it does not perform as advertised. It took a lot of work to get it functional.

I bought this to slice cheese easier than using a knife, but the "blade" basically just smashed through the cheese and left a little string that was pushed out the bottom. The cheese slid across the board due to the angle of the blade when first starting, and the slices were even thicker due to having to accommodate the slot the blade rests in on the "cutting" surface.

It would be really nice to have, if it were big enough to cut half of the things it advertises being able to cut!

This cheese cutter is really well made. Far superior to the ones with the wire. This one has an actual blade the does a perfect job and won't stretch and break like wire ones Ive had in the past. This is very light weight and very sturdy. The blade is sharp for getting perfectly cut cheese every time. It washes up so easy.

You might need to practice because sometimes it doesn't cut straight.

The slicer is very easy to use and gives a clean cut piece of cheese, in any thickness you desire. It cleans up great in the dishwasher.

The cutter is too big and does not cut cheese thin enough. Price is ok: did not rturn it but would not buy it again.
