This item comes pre-assembled, minus the sizing guide, which comes off for cleaning. I really appreciate that the blade has a safety lock to prevent inadvertent cuts. Trust me though, this is SHARP. After using it the first time, I cut myself on it, just by barely touching the blade through a rag. Now I only wash the blade by scrubbing one direction from the dull back edge off the front tip....CAREFULLY.First off: A standard hand-held wire cheese slicer always chunks off the bottom of each slice, so I don't use those.For reference, I regularly buy the 4-pound block of cojack cheese at Wal-Mart. I cut it into french fry size pieces, first by cutting big slices, stacking those slices, and cutting them again, about 1/3 to 1/2 an inch thick. It would take me 25 minutes to use a butcher knife to do it, and by the end, my hand hurts from forcing the blade through.With this device, I can cut the same amount of cheese in about ten minutes, and two more to wash it. It has a ton of leverage and just mows through a stack of cheese.The only criticism is that the knife is heavier than the rest of it, so it's a little top heavy and prone to scooting around, even on a cutting board.All in all, it's a great device that I hope lasts a long time..

I waited until I had actually used this slicer, before writing a review. For weak or older hands, this is wonderful. There was no strain on my hands at all and the slices were perfect. The whole machine is light weight and easy to get out and put away. Cleanup was easy. One must always be very careful of the sharp blade. Don't daydream while cleaning this. Respect the blade and pay attention. I had no problem. I can't believe how fast I had a whole bag of cheese slices to put in the freezer.

Could’ve been 5 but it needed a slight modification. This slicer has changed my life, my wife and I’s relationship has skyrocketed, I got a raise at work and on top of it I can slice endless amounts of smoked cheese to precision. Picture added is the modification made to make it perfect

Most of the reviews are about using as a cheese slicer, but I am a home baker and was looking for something easy to use that would keep my slice cookies uniform. This worked great! Just have to make sure the dough was chilled so it is hard enough to slice. No more using a knife and having cookies come out all different thicknesses. Love it! Also just used it to cut even apple slices for a Dutch Apple Pie. Works great!

The cheese slicer works - smooth and easy cuts - just like the school paper cutters. The guide that is supposed to regulate the thickness of cuts is of no use - fortunately, this does not interfere with the cheese slicing.

Unlike a lot of cheese cutters, this one has an actual blade on an arm, not a flimsy wire. This is useful for several reasons. One, it takes virtually no strength to make precise cuts. Perfect if you suffer from arthritis. 2, because of the well made blade you can cut potatoes, carrots, cucumbers, etc., with ease. It is easy to clean and dishwasher safe. However, make sure you use caution when putting it in or taking it out of a dishwasher. My wife accidentally cut her finger through the nail while retrieving it. The blade is sharp and as long as you’re careful this is an excellent cutter. I have purchased 2 of these. After loving it for myself, I purchased it again for a friend. 5 Stars.

So far I haven't found anything I dislike about the product. It does an excellent job cutting block cheese. There is one thing you should be careful around and that is the blade. It is very sharp so be careful when you are working around it or it will deliver a nasty cut. I haven't got one yet and hope not to.

This an excellent product, well made with a really sharp blade, good guillotine action, and should last well. My only complaints are of the description given on the purchase page.There is only one blade (it only needs one and it is not replaceable but is very sharp and made of good quality stainless steel. It uses a similar cutting action to paper cutters with guillotine action.The spacing setting mechanism gives only an approximate result. For example, with mature cheddar cheese and set to 1mm, the slices are 2 to 3mm. It may be more accurate when using larger spacing but the fact that the mechanism to achieve this raises and lowers with the blade means that it is only partially in contact with food and accurate placement is a matter of judgement. I am left-handed and this makes it less easy to use and may bias my views.The safety lock is very secure but it is too tough to open and close easily and certainly not suitable for use with weak hands.Despite these (minor) criticisms, I gave 5 stars as it is an excellent product, and is well packaged, if possibly slightly over priced.

It was not the size that I expected however it is made of good quality material and knife is sharp enough to even cut through biltong with no struggle. Just not the commercial grade you’d expect but fine otherwise
