More accurate and much easier to read than the Rubbermaid THO550 when both were tested against a (very accurate) ThermoWorks digital thermometer. The test was made in an LG dual fuel oven with the oven set at 350° in “Bake†mode. All three thermometers were positioned in the center of the oven and the reading taken after a 20 minute warm-up time. The stand and rotatable hanger were also superior to the Rubbermaid device.

We suspected out oven was not heating to the correct temperature so we bought two of these and used them to calibrate our old oven. These thermometers are by no means advertised as instant read but I feel they take a long time to register the actual temperature. Well over a minute.

The hook needs to round not an angled wire the thermometer falls off the oven rack if touched.

This reads a different temperature from the oven thermostat and different from an instant read thermometer I had. I now have 3 different readings at any one time and I have no way of knowing which is right or close to right, so I just take an average but I never know if it’s correct, It may be accurate, it may not, but it does work.

This thermometer is just one of an entire class of badly designed thermometers. They are basically the same with minor variations in the typeface, increments, etc. but overall are terrible. The numbers are too small to read without opening the oven door, the hooks don't grasp the wire racks well enough, the unstable stand causes the device to fall over at the slightest provocation, the glass front gets covered in oven spatters almost immediately and cannot be read even with the door open. This particular one is no worse nor better than numerous others I have tried.

I use an inexpensive apartment furnished oven with no interior light, and the larger type makes this easier to read. Gives spot-on accurate temperature readings.
