Overview: This worked fine but not without a couple of noteworthy quirks. For a little over $10 and based on some of the other reviews I was prepared for this to either be a major hassle or not work at all. I was pleasantly surprised. Here are the two quirks I should note:1. The mini CD disc did not work in my old ThinkPad X301 which is what I use to copy files stored on optical media onto my NAS so I can then access it on my day-to-day laptop (which has no optical drive). This disc is so tiny that my laptop's laser lens was unable to move far enough inward to read the disc. Thankfully, I had another drive from an even older ThinkPad that was able to read the disc. The product info says contact them for a link to the software but other reviews say there is no support available. I guess I would have had to find another capture application if the CD hadn't worked (something I will probably want to do anyway) but I'm glad I didn't have to.2. The capture process was complicated by the fact that I was unable to see the image capture process in real time. I could hear the audio through my laptop speakers but I could not see the video in the provided capture application. So while I was able to record the audio/video data I couldn't see what it looked like until I stopped recording and opened the output file. This was especially problematic for me as the source VHS tape was of very low quality and my VCR had difficulties tracking correctly. I only needed to capture about 5 minutes off the VHS (an old high school project) so I opted to do multiple blind captures, review all of the resulting output files, and then choose the best one. This lack of real time capture viewing may have been a drivers issue, I'm really not sure. As soon as I plugged the device into the USB slot Windows 10 detected it and installed drivers. I decided not to try the manufacturer provided drivers for fear of creating an even worse problem but now that my immediate need has been fulfilled I will probably go back and troubleshoot a bit.Summary: The hardware itself I think is really great, especially at this price. It allowed me to very cheaply and with only minimal hassle preserve an old home video. In the future I can probably create a more user friendly experience by finding a better third party capture application and perhaps also trying out different drivers. I'm glad I have this around now, it was a good buy despite the quirks.

I have never had much success with RCA capture devices in the past, so imagine my surprise when this one actually worked. The unit itself is plug-and-play. Even with Windows 10, it had no problem locating and installing drivers on its own once plugged in. The challenge, however, came with capture. The program that's included, for me at least, worked intermittently: I do not believe it's all that compatible with Windows 10; can't comment on versions below though. Video worked one time for about a minute then never again. Afterward only audio worked. Uninstalled, reinstalled; nothing. At first I thought it was the device, thinking it was defective, or the wires I had connected to my VCR. Switched it with an old PlayStation and got the same result. Tried a different computer too. Turns out it was the program all along.I ended up having to get a copy of Bandicam to generate a capture and actually record video. For the price, I don't know that you can get better than this product. The video generated was fluid with no tearing, skipping or corruption; audio similarly remained synced throughout with no noise or artifacts. I did have one issue with snow randomly appearing at times, but that ended up being the VCR, not the device like I first thought.Overall, very satisfied. It took some trial-and-error and frustration but I can confirm this product works as advertised. For me it was the bundled program that didn't work.

When I received this I wasn't expecting too much. The device feels very cheap and flimsy. The casing flexes when you hold it giving the impression that it is loosely held together and there are no screws as it's a snap together plastic case. The initial use went great. Drivers loaded without any problems and the software was fairly easy to use. I hooked up my camera to the proper inputs and transferred a 13 minute video without any issues. I didn't try burning it to DVD yet because this was just a trial test. So far so good.I went to pull the device out of my USB port and that's when everything went south. The casing on the device split in two and I could see that there are four tiny plastic posts in the corners and three of them snapped off. There didn't appear to be any snapped or broken wires so I put it back together and put a tie wrap around it. I'm fairly hardware savvy and have plenty of experience repairing and soldering electronic equipment, so I made sure that everything was intact before trying again. When I tried a second attempt at copying a tape, I only got audio and no video. Tried a different set of RCA cables as well as my VHS deck and the same thing happened. In my opinion, this device is not worth any price. It's very cheaply made, falls apart easily and comes with a completely useless male to male usb cable which doesn't even plug into the device!Stay away from this thing. Price-wise it's cheap but what good is that if it doesn't work?

Worked from the very start, converted my camcorder tapes with no issues with either video or audio. This is an extremely inexpensive way to convert your old technology tapes to a digital format.I personally used OBS Studop software which is very easy to use, you just need to add the source of recording which in my case was my JVC camcorder and then you are good to go.It's real time recording, 60min tapes will record 60min and if you convert to .MKV format 60min tape is around 6.5gb in size. The only thing is with OBS software you need to manually stop recording once the tape is done playing.I am very happy!
