It’s a little cumbersome to lock. Maybe I just need more practice. It has worked against the neighborhood gas thieves.

With gas prices as high as they are I fell victim to somebody siphoning gas out of my old Yukon. Remembering the gas lines of the late 70s I remembered the locking gas cap. A simple enough product that is very effective.Pro: it fit as described. When I installed it the locking mechanism Functioned as expected.Con: this morning I drove to the gas station to fill up my car only to have the locking mechanism not release the cap. I inserted the key and as I tried to unlock it all I heard was a ratcheting sound similar to what you would hear if you were over tightening a cap. Fortunately I had enough gas to return home where I was able to use a pair of channel locks to squeeze the outer shell so that the inner mechanism would grip the tines and I was able to get the cap off. I can’t imagine if this it happened while my wife was out and about driving the vehicle. Odds are she would’ve had to drive it to a shop where they would’ve charged a pretty penny to remove it.Buyer beware.Now to be fair I have not contacted the company so I cannot speak to their customer service, however I do intend to do so. If I find satisfactory results I will add a follow up to this review.

Glad to have it with the price of gas. Last fill at the 1/4 tank mark cost over $71. It is more difficult than expected to remove the locking cap, which is both good and bad for an old person with arthritis. It is good because maybe it will keep your neighbor from siphoning your gas but difficult to put enough pressure on it with arthritic hands. I see it kinda like an alarm system on your home will not keep a real burglar out but might be enough to have that burglar go on to the next home without an alarm. With a locking gas cap might be enough to have the gas burglar move on to the next vehicle.

On my 3rd purchase of this gas cap.The locking mechanism only lasts about a year. Have had to break it off. But unfortunately we do need this cap.

Just like many of the other reviews on here, my cap got stuck on my fuel tank opening. Not only is the lock itself monumentally cheap, but the instructions printed on the cap were blatantly unhelpful. I literally spent over an hour trying to get the thing off (it would just spin in place, as if I hadn't even unlocked it). Thinking perhaps I was perhaps doing something wrong, I had my brother give it ago, and he too could not get it off. So then I looked up videos on how to remove a stuck locking gas cap, and... literally all the videos were not how to use the key to open, but rather, how to use a drill or a screwdriver to break it off (which is what I finally ended up doing to get rid of it). So while I invite you to take my review however you please, understand that (1) lots of people are having their cap get stuck, (2) it's cheaply made, and (3) if someone wants to break into your gas tank even with the locking cap, they'll just take a drill or screwdriver to it, and effortlessly gain access.

This item came exactly as expected. It is well-made, lock is strong, came with two keys. Took it out of the box and the plastic bag, exchanged from my old cap and was on my way.
