Very good quality, double open standard cartridge installation with no difficulty. You can not use carbon filters, they are single opened. Better buy spare head gaskets and change them every 2 or 3 services. If you use it at maximum water temperature of 300°F (149°C), change gaskets to silicone.

Easy to install, and incredibly robust construction. The only possible drawback is the canister gasket ("O"ring) which has a square profile, instead of the usual circular profile, so you may have to buy a replacement directlyfrom Pentek instead of a local hardware store.

I installed this and experienced two problems. First, inside the bottom part is a threaded rod that the filter slips over. At the base of the threaded rod is a cup that holds the filter. On the unit I received the cup at the base of the threaded rod was not perpendicular to the threaded rod. This caused the filter to sit at an angle to rod and not be parallel to the head sealing surface. When I called Pentek technical support I talked with a person who was absolutely no help - "I have never heard of that before..." Second, the inlet and outlet threads were not right. I tried two types of 3/4 fittings (CPVC with thread tape and stainless to CPVC with thread sealant) and both leaked. Both fittings I used were NPT. It is possible the threads are NPS or some other variant but nothing was mentioned in the instructions. I returned the unit. Waste of time. Too bad because the construction and materials appear robust.

Excellent housing EXCEPT...there is about a 1/2" rod thru the center of the housing that didn't allow my ceramic filter to fit onto it. I ended up returning housing. (Am using for a whole house filtration system).The rod is typically not found in most water filter housings.
