I am a professional finish carpenter. The lead is dark. I'm almost. 65. I can see it very clearly. I use the Pentel twist erase III pencils exclusively. They are awesome. This combo is very durable and reliable. I won't use any other combo in the future.

Okay, so first of all, these are great "lead" refills. They write smoothly and evenly.Now, there is no lead in these. They are graphite with a clay binder, as the things in the center of pencils have been for centuries, millennia in fact. Graphite is made of pure carbon. Carbon is used to make diamonds. So, potentially, if you buy these, apply extreme pressure and heat to them, and wait an eon, you'll have yourself some industrial grade diamonds. Good luck with that.

These leads do not break easily and writing is dark. Most leads that come with the mechanical pencils are very light in color so you really need to buy the refills in the darker lead. Love these leads...are always sharp when needed.
