When I ordered this, I could have sworn it said it was 20 Amp rated for the 45' (the 60' showed as 15 Amp), but when it arrived I noticed it was 15 Amp also. Going back to the order page (which seems to have changed a bit since the 60' is no longer listed) I see that it was my mistake (or they changed it). I would have ordered the 60 if I had known that. Doesn't matter thought because I like it anyways. The end plug seems a bit cheapish (its a typical $5 one you can buy anywhere) but that also means I can replace it easily. Everything else about it screams quality. I have it plugged into a 20 amp circuit. I ran my small Lincoln Mig welder off it recently and had no issues. This thing is way smaller than I imagined. I have attached a photo of it next to my 75' hose reel for comparison. It was light enough that I screwed it directly to the building frame instead of using a heavy duty mounting plate like I did for my hose reel. Pulling the cord out is super easy, so there is virtually no extra stress put on the building. Bottom left on the picture is the mounting plate I had created for it anyways, but didn't find out until I tried to mount it that the bolts spacing on this is just a little too small to straddle my tubing.

This reel is THE INDUSTRIAL GRADE UNIT ON THE MARKET!! That was the reason I paid the high price. It holds the 50' 12 gauge cord even if you allow it to rewind without manual "feeding" to wind level across the reel, and I am anal about that so I do wind It level, but I tested it to see if it would hang up before it got all the cord wound up. It worked. The red color matches the retractable air hose reel I already have. The detent works well when you pull cord out, and want it to stay at that point. It also releases and recoils with only a small "tug" and then let it go. So far very satisfied even though the price is high.

Start with the good. The cord is 12//3 SJOOW. Feel free to look up the ampacity of this cord on your own, but the label states 15A at 45'. This is correct given the parameters listed. If you need more current, larger gauge wire or shorter distances are your friend. The reel is nice and sturdy, the locking mechanism is easily serviced. and the spool out guide is adjustable.Spots where I thought they could have improved. The leader cord was a bit short, I cut it even shorter and installed a twist-lock, then fed it with 10AWG SOOW Leader. The cord cap on the extension side was improperly installed. It was not aligned inside the insulating grip. This gives the whole product a fairly bad look. As people have mentioned already the main reel spring feels a little weak pulling in the last bit of cord. I am leaving it this way as to get the most life out of the spring inside the spool. Others have mentioned that getting a replacement is neigh impossible. Then there is the mounting. I think Reelcraft did design this for the home user, then over-built some aspects of it for the industrial user. The mounting holes could take a 1/4" - 3/8" lag bolt, but if you need to mount this to masonry there is no way to use 7/8" Redcaps. I was able to drill the holes out a bit and use the redcaps, but installation wasn't the easiest thing in the world. All said, if you are a bit handy and understand the electrical trade, this reel might work for your purpose. If you want plug and play, maybe keep looking.

I do woodworking as a hobby and have numerous stationery woodworking machines in my basement. I use to have all kinds of extension cords running on the floor to power the machines. I mounted the Reelcraft unit to the ceiling, at a 45 degree angle, and with the 45 foot cord I can reach all of my machines easily. The Reelcraft unit is expensive but it is well worth the money. It has excellent quality, is very heavy duty and works very well. I have experience with less expensive units which never seem to wind up the electrical cord properly and break after a few months of use. The Reelcraft unit is a professional unit that works like a charm and should give me many years of service. The Reelcraft website has video's on how to mount and use the unit. These were very helpful. I highly recommend the L-4545-123-3.

This is a great product not a fake one You might get at Harbor freight. This will last a lifetime and is rebuildable solid metal which I’d very much appreciate. I can’t even plug my 15 amp small welder into this without blowing it out.

Over $800 each, and I had to troubleshoot open grounds on both cord reels. Do they even test these things before they ship? Will not buy again.

I wanted a cord reel to hang from the ceiling in my garage out of the way, yet immediately accessible without having to get an extension cord, unwrapping it re-wrapping it, etc. This one, though much more expensive than the variety you'll find at the local hardware store, is built like it will last my lifetime and my kid's too. Heavy gauge metal everywhere with no corners cut. It comes packed like it was china too with heavy styrofoam all around. I found a Reelcraft ceiling mount on another web site and it, too, is made to last. I would not hesitate to buy anything from this company as they obviously build their stuff for the commercial, every-day-use market. I've used it for quite awhile now and have nothing but good things to say about it.

In my opinion you can't go wrong with Reelcraft products. Yes they're expensive but you only have to buy it once. Only thing I'd change is I would make the tri-tap outlet magnetic. I assume like myself most everybody mounts it overhead and it would be nice if I could stick to my metal shop table or something metal near by.

Product arrived as described, one day late, but due to unusual weather conditions. Very satisfied with the product, and Amazon Prime
